Default What happened to my pressure plate?!?!

about a year ago, while i was driving on the freeway i downshifted to 4th and all of a sudden i hear a clunk and a clinking noise getting fainter and fainter. so i pull over and all of a sudden i couldnt shift anymore. so i replaced my clutch with a centerforce II clutch. I finally got around to taking pictures of the aftermath and look what happend to my pressure plate!!!

Maybe something came loose and was tumbling inside your bell housing like like clothes in a dryer. Is the inner wall of your bell housing damaged as well?

i wouldnt know. where is the "inner bell housing?" i replaced the clutch a year ago and everything has been working fine since then. i just never got around to taking pictures until now because i thought that it looked interesting how it looked like someone took a spoon and just scooped out a chunk of metal from the pressure plate.

Looks like something was loose inside your tranny. Kind of strange though...

Did you resurface your flywheel when you installed the clutch?

Yup, looks like a bolt backed out and got caught between your PP and housing. Same thing happened to me with the 'Lude. Couldn't engage the clutch at all. Luckily it didn't get lodged anywhere and just rattling around like crazy. After I took the tranny off, that bolt looked like it fell into a blender. My PP was scratched up pretty good, but nothing major just cosmetic.

Now I use Red Loctite on all the tranny bolts, including flywheel bolts. Also, make sure to torque them to the proper specs and in the proper sequence (alternating pattern, like you would do to your lug nuts).

I was thinking it was probably a bad installation becasuse the previous owner said that she just recently had the clutch replaced; and then to have this happen made me question her. Yeah, afterwards, i had the same problem of my clutch not disengaging so i had to drive the last 5miles home stuck in 3rd gear! boy, that was tough trying to get the car rolling at the red lights.

but oh well, i had my local mechanic install the new centerforce II clutch and everythign has been fine since.
