Default Anyone rockin' two headunits in a 96-98 EK?

Hey guys, I was wandering if anyone had installed a second headunit down by the cupholders and left power to the stock one for a clock or something... Please post pics if you have done this. TIA!

you have to leave the stock one attached so your dome light and keyless entry work...or at least i'm pretty sure of that.

I have a different alarm system with keyless entry and ****, but still rock my stock head unit up top.

I have my Pioneer in the bottom DIN and keep my stock one, not hooked up, up top to hopefully fool thieves.

there is a guy on sounddomain, that kept the stock one and installed then... he did it for thieves as well, it appears as if only stock and has a flat plate across the aftermarket one in the bottom to cover it...

http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/405929/2

I had talked to him after that about the plate to cover it, it was in plans to look as clean as teh aftermarket flip top ones, anyways that is what it looks like

I have factory keyless entry, alarm, and dome light... I want to keep them all and its a lot easier to glance at a clock up top... Anyone got PICS?

In this thing.

Oh, and its a DX, so it doesnt have any of those features you listed, but from what i have read, you can just leave your stock one buried back there.

I know you can bury it back there, but I figured what the hell, might as well leave it as part of theft deterent and keeps a clock in plain view... How hard is it to fit a single din radio down there? Will it fit right in or does the slot need to have some custom work done?

Probably have to cut out the back, as for a harness for it, the guy's pic I posted, looks like he just cut some high density foam to hold it in there.. so other than cutting the back out and bringing the wires down, I dont see it being too much trouble... but I cannot say for sure, havent done it.

Ummm, it bolted right in, the harnesses are a better fit there then they are in their normal location. If it was during hte day i would show you, but it took me like 5 minutes to change.

So nothing special required... worx just like installing a radio in the top din, right?

The pic you posted is a 99-00 EK... Not what I am looking for... Our 96-98 have a much smaller pocket!

I installed aftermarket cd player in my ek.
I completly took the stock one out.
I have code alarm which worked fine with and without the stock radio, and my dome light functioned as well.

thats because you have a 99,..they changed the way they wired into the headunit in 99,..i forget how to do it for hte 96-98s but there is a harness or a wire you use to completely take out the stock headunit and still have your keyless and domelight function

the dome light is a green wire and a yellow/green wire i believe. Not completely sure, but it also might be a white/green wire.
