Honda Accord 2000 - Audio Installation
Hello All,
Recently purchased a 2000 Accord EX coupe 2 door MT. First change will be removing the factory deck and installing another solution. I say solution because Im just not sure what Im actually looking for but I know what I want...ability to play a lot of music and surf through directories fast along with quality sound output. The tough part is the fact that Im fairly new to this entire feild.
I found this site http://www.carstereohelp.com/s...2.htm which details removing the stock deck. Found it in the forums here. For some people, this may seem like a monkey job, but the fact that it's available with pictures helps a great deal with planning and purchasing of new parts.
Options that I'm aware of / thinking about:
1. MP3 Deck - I've seen a bunch and they're usually slow when starting to play a song and/or browsing through directories. The CD's are still too small to fit a large library of music.
2. DVD Deck - Are these available just for playing music? If so, I think this would solve my problem but I am still restricted to burning 1 or 2 CD's, and adding on new music when it is released.
3. (My favorite) Wire up a laptop or an old pc to the audio. The laptop/pc will be part of my wireless network so when the car is in the driveway, I simply connect and upload music from the house. The computer / laptop side of things is easy for me. Just when autos are involved
Let me know if you have any info on attempting to do this.http://www.apple.ca
4. Using an IPOD along with a FM transmitter. Not sure how good the quality would be. FM quality vs. 192K bit MP3's???
5. Heard some decks have hard drives that copy music off cd's. Still looking into this option.
So, as you can see Im all over the place. If someone has a good idea or good links / installation instructions for anything accord 2000 coupe, please pm me or reply.
Thank everyone,
Youssefer

here is what I plan on doing, you could test it for me
I'm going to put new speakers in the doors (since the Honda stock ones suck in my car), then I'm going to get a 100W-200W amp to power the speakers (completely bypassing any kind of a deck.) Then just get a Red/White AV to Headphone conversion, and plug it directly into my iPod. Then I have a Belkin Car Charger for the iPod to power it.
It will be an awesome setup, and I'm certain it will work. Right now I just have my iPod through the cassette deck, until I get the funds to pay for new speakers

Nice. What size is your ipod? How fast can you scroll through directories? How long does it take for a song to start once you press play?
my iPod is a 15gb (just bought it a few weeks ago).
I can scroll through directories quite fast, but more importantly, I can build hundreds of custom playlists. Or just scroll by artist, albums, and so forth.
Now you have to understand, the iPod loads songs into RAM to conserv batteries (I believe its 10 songs or more), that way it doesn't have to start up the HDD. Aslong as you don't go skipping through songs, and just let them play through playlists (which can be set to shuffle), every song loads very fast, one right after another.
But if you are skipping songs, it takes about 1-2seconds for the HDD to speed up, then get the song off it to play. Overall, it's not bad what so ever. It's a very fast and beautiful machine.
Well worth the $270 I payed for it.
