little cracks in the belt...almost like it has dryrotted. you want to check the side of the belt and if you can the actual flat surface of it

Timing belts just brake, they show very little wear. I got my belt replaced on my GSR at 98k and the belt looked somewhat new (very little wear), if you have over 90k on the car just get it done.
