another busted exedy organic clutch
I took out my tranny today and found this:
So I am probaly going to get an oem clutch. im tired of dealing with stupid **** that keeps breaking.
i never went to the drag strip. hardly ever dropped the clutched or did agressive launches
my next car is going to stay stock
edit:
there are 2 of those parts where its cracked/broken
the other 2 parts are where you can see its been worn against when the spring moves

damn i have had my exedy for about 10k miles.. not one problem..and it handled a 50 shot really nicely.. lets see how it holds 9 psi of boost ..muhahahahahHAHA!
How did you know there was something messed up with the clutch? Could you feel that little bit of breakage on there? That's a really weird spot to mess up. Looking at your disk, it looks like you didn't beat on it either. I'd just go OEM clutch now

the only thing I can see causing this is eather crazzy launch or down shifting into second gear when coming off the highway @like 50mph. Someting is definitly wrong with that particular clutch. And Im not a biest but exedy dose make all of honda/acura oem cluthes. Do a search youll find it or call a honda dealership with a good tech hell tell yah.

If you want to get something for sure then go Toda or OEM/Spoon. </TD></TR></TABLE>
hmm
well oem is made by exedy, spoon uses an exedy clutch disk but use their material on it and toda, well, not unless you want to sell your first born.
The cracking happens ewhen the person who installs the clutch doesn't follow the proper procedure for torquing down the pressure plate. We see it all the time at the dealership with the do it yourselfers' cars.
next time get a helms manual.
i have had an exedy race organic in the car for over two years, and i've pulled and replaced my tranny twice, no problems yet.
exedy is the only manufacturer to use all new, not refurbished clutch materials and equipment
ACT and Clutchmasters use recycled clutch disks. If it were me i would never install anything but an exedy clutch disk in my car.
other items you'll want to inspect are your slave and master cylinders. no fluid in them equals greater pushing force to get clutch to engage, which also, can rexult inthe cracking that happened to your clutch disk.
Also never buy a clutch pack off ebay, unless it is from a notable source you don't know what your getting. trust me there are tons of fake exedy clutches out there and exedy's website even goes over them.

Ok you should give us some more facts about your setup so we know if exedy is crap or not. 25,000 miles on a clutch is decent. You also have to ask yourself if you installed it correctly.
I've seen exedy clutches up close after 10-15-20k of useage and they have all held up fine for street racing and daily driving.
Did you get the RACE or the OEM replacement?
What mods do you have?
The Race organic can tyipically hold roughtly 200-225lb tq
the OEM is right around 165lbs tq

This type of premature wear (as shown in the pics) is almost always caused by torsional vibration. There are numerous causes or contributors, such as cam changed, high boost, lightened flywheel, aftermarket front dampener, high compression, etc. Basically, if it improves power or acceleration, it increases torsional vibration. Any increase in torsional vibration will play havoc on the disc center that is trying to dampen out the vibration, thus wearing the disc center prematurely. I don't think Exedy can be blamed for the wear. I think if we do down the list of parts in the car's setup, we could find some mods that are contributing to the wear.
