Default Ok WTF just happened? Hit vtec and possibly fried ECU.. pls read

So I've got this built H22, I swapped it into my 92 Si, I broke in the engine with an H23 ECU just because I needed the car and my EMS isn't here yet... it drives pretty good, but I wanted to hit Vtec for the first time, so I call up my friend with a 95 Vtec and ask him to come over so I can put his ECU into my car so I can hit Vtec real quick. So I swap out the ECU, take it down the street, hit it through first, hit Vtec for the first time (yay), second sluggish..speedo stops working, third sluggish then CEL comes on (the sluggishness of the car is from the ECU not providing enough fuel for my motor (12:1 CR) not that anything is actually really wrong).

So I take it home real easy, on the way back the speedo starts to work again. I get home, check the code (#17), it's the VSS code, which explains the speedo not working.. sorta. I've never gotten this code before, and I've had the car at a much faster speed than I just went. But I reset the ECU and everything was ok after that (ie no code). That was fine, since I dont like running the engine hard without the proper amound of fuel for it, so I put the ECU back in my friends car.

He starts it up and Bam, it starts idling as if the PCV valve is out ( you know, up down up down up down from 1k to 1.5k). I wait for a code, but none shows up. His car was perfectly fine when I took out the ECU, and we didn't touch his car at all. He also said that on the way home he realized he can't hit Vtec in first, and it hesitates and jerks every so often in the higher gears even when cruising. We checked all his vlaves/sensors etc just to make sure, and nothing.

Sooo I guess my question is, is it possible that some how I fried something in his ECU running it on my car? It must have happened because I hit Vtec, but why? And, I REALLY don't want to be putting an AEM EMS on my car, and fry it when I hit Vtec. Anyone have a CLUE?

Much thanks.

Why on earth would you dog your car out that has 12:1 compression with a stock ecu? You are just asking to melt your pistons from running lean.

Did you by any chance disable your battery before swapping ecu's?

I just wanted to hit it once, just to feel it... the anticipation was killing me.

As for the ECU, apparently it kind afixed itself, so that's ok....

But I'm still curious as to why my VSS CEL came on and my speedo went dead?

Although the anticipation and anxiety is understandable, it is exactly that that kills so many motors. People just can't wait to get it tuned before getting on it.

Have you checked to see if you plugged in the VSS securely when you reinstalled the motor? If you didn't, VTEC in first could have shook it loose.

The VSS is easy to break, one hard acceleration run and it can break. It is located by the shift linkage on the tranny. When the VSS breaks, it causes the speedo to go dead and VTEC can not be engaged in any gear. If it only happened once then it might have come lose for a second causing the CEL, but I would go ahead and check it to make sure it's securely fastened.

BTW, don't get on it until you get it tuned. I know it's hard but in the end you'll be happy.

Ok, so yeah it was just a slightly loose plug I guess.

Yeah I'm not getting on it anymore, I just wanted to do it that once.. make sure Vtec worked

If you're gonna try to punk someone out for being AN idiot, at least make sure your grammar is correct.
