Default Lightweight Flywheels

How many of you guys are running lightweight flywheels? And what brand? And how light should I go for a daily driver. Any side-effects?

I had a Comptech 6.75lb flywheel with Clutchmaster Stage 1 on my B20.

Loved it.

CM. To correct the above post, it's actually 7 lbs. 5.6 oz. according to my local post offices scale. I have it on my daily driver and I like it. The draw back is that it makes it harder to start off, but is in my opinion liveable. I would definitely recommend it from a performance standpoint. I must note that I run into MAYBE 10 minutes of stop and go traffic a week, which is where I would imagine that a light weight flywheel would most effect driveability.

Just a question for everyone else out there with light weight fywheels-do any of you guys have to drive in a lot of stop and go traffic? If so, how liveable do you find your setup?

I drive with a Comptech flywheel everyday and don't even notice it's there when moving from a stop. You just get used to it.

I got the fidanza and it is great. It took me a week or two to get used to starting from a stop, but now its just like it was before. I drive a GSR with an open diff, and first gear is freacken crazy!! I need some LSD with this thing. I wish I had more money so I coulda thrown in the lsd and jdm fd. Instead I had the shop throw on the engine mount inserts.

Dont listen to the dummies that have never driven a car with a lightened flywheel. Stop and Go traffic is NOT bad. You do NOT lose low end power. I have seen NO negative effects from the flywheel. Of course I just got it a few weeks ago

For those who just shaved the factory flywheel, is there a big difference? How about shaved flywheel compared to billet ones? Any positives/negatives?

im running an OEM flywheel shaved to 11lbs and balanced. the car likes to chip in 1rst from a standstill, but in time you get used to it.

people will say shaved OEM flywheels are prone to warping, but i have yet to see this first hand and pay it little mind.

hey nugget, they advertised 7.5 lbs, but when it came the UPS sticker said 10lbs, and it was just in a small box with some packing material. i figured they were BSing, and it really was around 9. WAY lighter than stock once i got them both out and in my hands though.

How hard is it to install yourself? I don't want to pay anyone else to do it, so I was thinking of doing it myself.

hey 501, it takes a good 4+ hrs or so, and its alot of work, but its not real technical. if you have some time and some help, go for it. it was my first one, but my friend helped me out alot. i would definatly rather bust my *** for a few hours and spend the 300 bucks on more parts to install
make sure you have all the tools in advance.....we wasted some time tracking down sockets and a damn torque wrench.
