Stripping a 'Teg
Hey there.
I work with a guy that paints and powdercoats stuff for a living. He wants to powdercoat my entire undercarriage all candy red. Woo hoo!
Well, I have a question about it then. In order to powdercoat my undercarriage I have to take EVERYTHING out of it. Engine, tranny, electrical, interior, suspension... everything because the whole car has to go into the oven after it's powdered.
Has anyone ever stripped their car down like this? Anyone paid someone to do it? Time consuming, yes, but how time consuming? Could this theoretically be done on weekends over the course of an entire car show off-season?

Why in the **** would you want to do that? Is your friend gay?...or did you say boyfriend? I can't remember. IF I were you I'd set it on fire, that'll strip it pretty quick, and for about 5.00 worth of gas. Then take it to him for powdercoating.
pretty time consuming, I don't see the point in it, ask him to paint the outside of the car a custom color instead, or buy a stripped teg already, and then just rebuild and put everything new in after its powder coated.
i run 2 powder coating lines at work, and i dont see it worth your time or hassle to strip the whole car down to just metal to paint it a "fun" color that nobody would ever see...except maybe a dead squirrel...unless your trying to protect your undercarrage from salt/rust etc if you plan on having this car for a very long time....just my 2 cents

I would agree with that. But I have aspirations of getting into at least 5 magazines with one of those being on the cover. After that I'll move on to a new project. Suspension is getting powdered, so I figure that whole undercarriage should just be the next step.
I can just see having my car up on a tilted ramp at a show.. *drool*
But back to reality, the whole car when it gets stripped is going with this color. The base is going to be a Kandy Apple Red with silver base, the top color (the ice) is going to be Milano Red, and as long as the whole pizzmonkey is stripped I'm going to get the engine bay and other stuff (like the headliner and rear hatch cover) done as well.
I'm a *bling* *****.

Not rice, but "Oh my goodness, is that an integra or an angel from heaven!"

i wouldnt reccomend it either but it up to you because its your car. stripping it down is very time consuming. once the car is totally stripped, you need to put it on a rotisserie so you can turn it on its side with out damaging it. then you get to have fun stripping all the undercoating. the end results would be awesome for a strictly for show car.

If you were going to go through with it you'd probably have better luck using another chassis. Then you can swap the parts over at your leisure and have the others modified or painted or whatever as you pull them from the old car to put into the new one....instead of ending up with a garage full of various bolts and pieces....seems like it'd be easier to keep track.
i like the idea reckon it would look mad
but you should know by now 95% of this forum is gonna think that its gay rice painting the undercarrige doesnt make the car faster etc...

id say its going to take a lot of time...not just stripping the car but putting it back together...mostly because odds are youll break stuff when its coming out...and after putting on a nice layer of powdercoat things will be off a lil...and if you get some paint in the bolt holes...have fun tryin to get it to rethread...
like someone else said...this is going to be very very time consuming but will look kick *** when your done!
