my seats got jacked...
My Integra GSR leathers got jacked on monday...I'm really bummed out about it because the deductable is 900 bucks. I'm debating weather I want to claim this or not because I can easily find a set of GSR Leather seats for less than 500. My question really is that if I do claim my insurance, do I HAVE to go to the Acura dealership to process the claim? That is what I have been told but I've also been told that I have the right to take it to anywhere I want. I really don't want to have pay 900 bucks out my pocket for stock seats when I could pick up some ITR interior or what not....does anyone have any suggestions for my situation?
i'd just buy some ITR seats, or Recaros and take the loss i guess. i wouldn't spend $900 to get new leather seats when i could get recaros for a couple hundred more. sorry tho about your bad luck
I don't know about your state, but in Washington state it is a law that a person with damage to their vehicle can take it to either Bob's Total Mercedes 3400 WHP Customization Shop or Ma And Cletus's Weldin' and Tobaccie Shop or anywhere in between.
In other words in my state you can take it anywhere that will do the repairs. But call up a shop and ask, they would be the best ones to tell you.

well, i know that there was a commom misconception that insurance repairs would have to be done by shops OK'ed by the insurance companies, but in actuality, that is prohibited by law. The consumer has the right to choose whatever shop does the body work regardless of who the insurance company RECOMMENDS.
HOwever, i cannot say as to how this would corrolate to your situation in that its not body damage or accident repair, but rather stolen interior parts. Maybe someone else can give specific info, but i would think that the insurance company would have you go to a shop or have an estimator come out to you to determine how much you should be compensated... however, if the damage is under $900 then its just a big waste of time in my opinion.
Unless of course, they settle with you and compensate you for the full cost of replacement with new oem leather seats, in which case it should be enough money to pick up some way better seats elsewhere.

Don't bother reporting it to your insurance company. They aren't gonna give you the price of brand new OEM seats anyway since yours weren't brand new. Infact they probably won't give you anything if your deductible is $900. Just buy some new seats.
I used to work for an insurance company just so you know.

Well, I'm located in cali. I'm just tripping out because the deductible is going to be more me finding seats on my own. I have a shop thats willing to fix and replace everything and not charge me the deductible.

When my rear gsr leather seats were stolen my deductable was $500 anyways I got a check for $4500 for the rear seats. I'd imagine the fronts are pretty expensive. My adjustor tried to fidn some used ones, but they couldnt so they gave me what they cost at the Dealer.
You have to consider that you are going to ask ACURA for a quote. If you had 2000 gsr seats they will probably charge you over $2000 for the gsr seats. So after your deductible you have $1100.
With the $1100 you can either pick up some recaros and pitch in $200 or you can buy some itr seats or get some gsr for ~$400.
BTW $2000 is a REALLY low estimate. They will probably charge you a lot more. $4500 for the rear seats sounds like something Acura will do

I've checked...its about 2000 per seat for the fronts, not including all the mounting hardware and whatnot. The rear seats are about 2000. Both my front and rear seats were stolen.

Well another thing to think about is depending on your cars value you may be pushing the limit of having your car deemed a total loss. Not sure if you really want a salvage title, (theft) but its somethign to think about.
What year is your teg? Do you know the value?

I don't know. The only thing that kept the insurance company from totalling my car when it was stolen, is that the seats were still in the vehicle. It's a 2001 ITR.

we'll see what happens...

So you have $6000 for the seats and then you have install which might be around....lets say $1000 knowing Acura. So you are looking at $7000 max. I think they total cars out if the damage is equal to 75% of the cars total value.
12,000 * .75 = $8000. I do not think they will total the car out.
That just made me realize that if your seats and rims are stolen your car is totaled

Yeah most insurance companies use 75% as thier determining factor in totaling a car. Never underestimate the cost of Oem parts from the dealer. I remmeber when i was getting an estimate of seats from goodson acura, thy parts guy told me they had two Itr's totaled out in the last few months for just stolen seats, but then again the Itr interior was like 11k
Good luck man, keep us updated.

wash the title? in the dishwasher or washing machine?
seats aren't hard to install...I can do it myself. Its the alarm and the other misc stuff they messed up which will add to the damages...we'll see how it goes...

Sorry to hear you got jacked. It wasn't me, but I am selling a set of cloth interior. Feel free to berate them. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=771571
Best of luck. I've seen a few complete sets of black leather going for as cheap as $400.00. Hell, I'm not even asking that much for my black cloth!

sad to hear that someone went through so much trouble for just your seats :-(
get the quote from the acura dealer...if there quite a bit, take the quote to the insurance company then buy some used seats off ebay or something. Take that extra money and save it for your rates increase, by the time they drop, you should still have a few hundred left over for something new.
