My friend told me that you can make a civic awd by using parts from an awd cr-v. has anyone heard about doing this or know how to do it?

one of the big magazines is doing it (SCC or HondaTuning) to an Integra. My friends also saw an Integra out at some local drift event with the whole CRV drivetrain (AWD). Apparently the front drivetrain wasn't functioning (dunno how), so it was basically a RWD Integra drifting!.

It CAN be done.

 

You could also buy one. The 88-91 civic wagon came AWD. Swap in a built ZC with a turbo...cut 1.8s all day and smoke mustangs.

Yeah. But they are using parts from the extremely rare 4wd Integ. xsi ( I think that is the model, please correct me if I am wrong )

 

ive heard other ppl talking about it too(but never saw any results). im with liam's idea go buy a 88-91 awd wagon. but then agian ive been looking for several months now and havent been able to find one

yup, Honda Tuning has an AWD Integra project...

Your right, but I wonder how much power this drivetrain can hold. I wouldn't trust it past 200 HP. Lots of fabricating to get it to mount up too. More trouble than it's worth if you ask me.

The ignorance here is astounding. The Civic wagon doesn't have an AWD system that is up to the rigors of a performance engine. Period. You launch that little *** of a drivetrain two or three times and you'll be picking axle shrapnel out of your firewall. Consider the lack of strength in stock Civic axles and then consider that the wagon's axles (in front/rear, respectively) are 30 and 70% weaker than that.

Broken equipment abounds. The AWD system adds about 200 pounds as well.

Everyone needs to pull their heads out of their asses about AWD. Hondas run 8's in a front wheel drive configuration: is that not fast enough for you?

well a XSi comes stock with a b16(160hp), so i'd say it can hold pass 200hp.

that **** would be hot... but the CRVdrive shaft wouldn't hold any real power.. i ahd a discussion with the head mechanic at my job bout this the ohterday while we happen to be under a CRV

Tell that to the guy here on honda-tech (cant remember his name) with the supercharged AWD wagon he drives around. He launchs on it and doesnt have a problem. He used to have it turbo charged too.

And just because a honda *can* run 8 in FWD doesnt mean AWD is a bad thing. And the AWD system on the wagon im talking about is really FWD with RWD helping whenever the tires slip. So the STRESS of the off the line is mostly going to goto the front wheels. She will hold the power of a ZC as long as you do nothing stupid with it.

The CRV drivetrain is also pretty strong...you would be surprised.

Honda Tuning did that to a integra gsr, they had to do a alot of custom stuff to the drive train to get it to align right, and alot of cutting and welding back together.

 

seems like an interesting idea.

 

RealTime 4WD is NOT AWD. It is automatic part-time 4WD, and works using a viscous coupling (a clutch pack submerged in a viscous fluid) that senses a speed difference btween the front and rear wheels.

And yes, this has already been done.

There are both D-series and B-series RT-4WD systems. Some Civic and Integra sedans in Japan were equipped with RT-4WD, in addition to the Civic Wagon and CR-V.

i heard something that honda made a few AWD integras.. only a handful and only released in japan .. i woonder how true that is
