it's not bad to have the choice between HTML and the Flash, that way you appeal to all. I'm just partial to animation and clean transitions.

Now if you want me to be really critical:
-Banner needs work - thicker heavier
-Font for your info - embed it or something it pops like dynamic text
-Background image - awesome
-Navagation- simple but boring
-Overall - text dosen't seem clean enough

Don't take this as me bashing you or your site, It's just real simple and to me thats boring... I've redesigned my personal site 5 times and after a month of it being posted I started working on the newer one...The newest one should be up soon... you can try and check out some flash sites I made:
http://www.pumastruttin.com - local band (they are breaking up I think)
http://www.critkit.com - Is my personal one but it might not be working, the host suck ***....
http://www.kileo.com- one I started to design for a company then I got laid off and someone lese finished it...

hahahahah, im calling bullshit on that one.

Look at your user base, if you were a big company I could see where flash-driven wouldnt be ideal. But flash (and its plug-in) are one of the most used site tools out there, and is anything but limited.
Not to say you need it, I think for your target audience, the layout is more than acceptable.

I'm not trying to be rude (so don't take offence, especially seeing as how quick you were to offer citicism of todaspecsi's site), but I can't stand it when people talk out of their *** like this. If you're going to give web design advice, learn how to anti-alias your graphics (the jaggie white halo on your "logo" for that band). As for the other sites, I can't comment on them because I got tired of waiting for them to load and got tired of reading the portfolio intro line by line.

Secondly, in the RARE cases when flash is warranted, it is ALWAYS good form to provide "skip intro" links so return viewers don't have to sit through the same boring stuff.

Don't bash a site for not being created in flash. The cases where flash is warranted are the exception and not the rule.

As for todaspecsi, your site is clean informative and gets your info out there. You're not in danger of winning any design awards, but its still HEAD AND SHOULDERS above most of the rediculousness of 80% of the sites on the web. Websites are, in many ways, like cars. There's a ricey way of doing them and the right way If your site was a car it would def. get the from me and H-T for being clean and to-the-point.

Flash is the badly fitting body kit and custom periwinkle blue paint of web design. Unless you've got the MAD skills in which case your site comes out looking like Top Secret's GT300 Supra.

If you dont build it right then DUH. A properly maintained b20/vtec can be reliable if you do it right.

flash is cool and all
but a site totally designed by flash can be tacky
yes I've seen some really great sites that use all flash
but if this is your first page and all
you have to start somewhere
and its good that you are learning the basics with html

and if you do use flash, stay away from flash intros
imo its the epitomy of tacky

Hey thanks for the criticism, but I'm not to concerned with my current site since...

Flash though is a very common tool for web design and is used almost everywhere, whether it's a full site or just a navagation bar. I never your site was a bad start but it's not an award winner either. It's funny how people ask for criticism and then people get touchy cause it's given.

I agree with most of your comments on my site and that again is why I'm re-working it. But I guess just cause I gave negative criticism that meant I was done learning and some sort of web super star Like most others in here I am continuously learning, but that dosen't mean I can't comment.
