What is the most amount of miles you seen someone get on a timing belt?
My Prelude has 109,000 on the stock belt. I bought it at 105,000 and the previous owner told me he has yet to change it. I'm finally getting time to change it this weekend, and I wondered how many miles have you seen go on a stock belt?
You are pushing the limits on this. No matter what anyone else says-Honda says to change it at 105,000 MAX. I prefer to see them done earlier. This assumes a 5th gen. Another consideration is how the car was driven by the previous owner. If by chance you have a 4th gen, it should have been changed long before 90,000. Older Honda engines are supposed to have the service every 60K miles. Finally-a general rule is that belts and hoses should be examined and replaced at 6 year intervals; this according to several Honda dealers I have spoken with-cheap insurance.
BTW: this service also should include a new water pump and any hoses and belts that you cannot document as being replaced. Since the pump is off you might a s well fluch the cooling system too-use Honda coolant.

I forgot to mention it's a 1997. Yeah i'm going to replace the water pump as well. The previous owner never ran the car hard. He was not into the whole racing scene. So Honda recommends the timing belt be changed at 105,000 miles?

no, its recommended every 90k but 105k is MAX that it should go. personally i've seen one go to 160k miles on my dads toyota (he doesnt drive hard at all). but it was missing 3 teeth when i took it off. i would recommend you replace yours as soon as possible

well when i changed mine at 130k, im not sure if it was the original, but there was only like half the belt left it was chewed like crazy, i don't think that a belt with even 70k could have that much wear, so maybe it was original
good think when i bought it i had it flatbeded most of the way.
