Going to test drive once more before I buy.. things I should look out for?
Saturday I'm going to test drive this Accord once more before I buy it (accord info in my sig. My dad and I put $100 down on it, haven't really bought it yet).
This time when we test drive it, my dad and I are going to push it much harder, to make sure everything is ok.
I just want to know, anything we should really look out for? anything we should worry about?
It idles a little rough, but doesn't really seem to be any kind of a problem.
Thanks for the help,
boink

sometimes the power front windows can act up a bit. check the rear quarter panels where they meet up with the bumper in the wheel well area--they tend to rust in that area. other than that enjoy it if you buy it
I would also go over some bumps or whatever and listen to the suspension and how it sounds. Also make sure and drive it with the ac on heat on and make sure all switches guages everything works
on a great car

$5,500, 99k miles, body is entirely rust free.
It does have that problem with the left front window, when it goes up it sort of lags for a moment, then goes the rest of the way up slowly. What do we do about this?

decent price and lower miles. Try some silicone lubricant spray in the window jams (apply with q-tip) and it should help out a lot...worse case you will have to buy a new motor (chances are the seals are drying out and sticking on the window making it not so easy to glide)

Stop the car completely. Put your left foot on the brakes, then put your right foot on the gas. Dont slam the gas or anything, just put your foot on it. If the transmission is good, the car will sort of lurch forward. When this happens take your foot off the gas.

also test the "roll" of the car by going 60 on the highway and just randomly cut the wheel all the way to the left as fast as you can and I'm pretty sure the owner of it now will react the same way.

if u can do a compresion test. that will show u if the vavle seals or the piston rings are good.(sometime dealers lower the original miles.) second if it's an automatic just check the trans oil and smell it( if it smells like burned then something wrong with the trans. check for leaks>>> first when u get the car check under it,,,,, then check the crank pulleys etc. sometime hodas have small leaks on the pulley on the right of the vavle cover. and ask it the timing belt has been change( if u change it will cost about $300 done in a shop.) check the intirior of the car and the brake and gas pedale. check the seats etc. move the steering wheel to check for empty movement. it should be a little hard to move the steering wheel.(hope u understood this last one) and check the back end of the muffler for any unburned oil etc. if u can >>>. pull out the spark plugs and see if they are coverd in oil(bad) if the top has burned resedu(bad) or if they are all clean(good) check the front engine mount(all accords have problems with them,($89)) check for viabration on the steering wheel when u brake or when u drive 70mph-80mph. hope i was helpfull. good luck
Thats true the owner, if he knows cars wont like it. Thats why you do it away from him. I didnt to slam on the gas or anything. I meant put your foot on the gas with the brake applied. Witty remark though-really.
Pull over and pop the hood and trunk. The engine bay is normally dirty. Check to see if one part is unusually clean. If it is, chances are the was involved in an accident and the clean area was repaired. Do the same check for the trunk.

This is what you should look for:
All 4 tires match?
Mismatched paint?
While driving, let go of the steering wheel and see if the car pulls left/right?
Records? Does he have em? No? = badbadbad
Never & I mean NEVER buy a car based on looking at it at night. Daylight will bring out the imperfections, nightime will hide them.

well.. It was regularly serviced at a honda dealer just down the road. Tires are all brand new Bsomething performance tires. New Exhaust. The first time we looked at the car, every piece of the body lined up correctly (even under the hood and so forth), body paint was all matched (no overspray or anything of that such either, which would show that it was repainted).
The E-Brake works, which my dad says is a good sign that it was well maintaned (most go out by the time they reach 100k or so, but what does he know? he's driven Ford's all his life).
what else.. New Factory EX Exaust... hmm... that's about it.
