semi-OT: A-pillar fire extinguisher mounting
All CG modulation jokes aside... does anyone know how this bad idea was born in the first place? I mean, I've seen it on enough cars worthy of the dreaded "R-word" but I was just curious as to whether there ever was any legitimate reason for a fire extinguisher to be in said location in some other actual racecar that served as an example, or if this behavior was merely a propagation of "style."
Curious Chris P- (don't shoot me, I'd just like to know. please delete the thread if you feel it is inappropriate)

Perception of racing. Old-school owners of cars in that early "R---" culture were buying up racecar parts and trying to look like racers, to pick up women or get some credibility or whatever, and then entering their cars in shows (but not racing them), because racing was cool. These pieces were brightly-colored and/or placed in locations where everyone could see them. Passers-by might say "Oh, that dude has a fire extinguisher on the A-pillar, so he must race that car. How cool! How sexy!" ...mission accomplished. Perception of racing.
That spawned an entire series of "fake race gear" - cases in point: APC coilovers with no springrates listed, chrome fire extinguishers, monkey bars, kill switch lighters, fake window surrounds that look like lexan with pop-rivets, huge wings, etc.
The truly deplorable individual is the one who puts a huge Mag-Lite on the A-pillar, held there only with a plastic c-clip that could withstand a 2mph impact at best. I've seen it more times than I care to admit. What is that, exactly? Perception of policeman? Perception of better night time vision?
Just IMHO of course,

All I know is that I keep seeing street driven "yo-boy" cars with permanent number placards on the sides (Touring car style).
I guess that's about all you need to know. Answers pretty much any question regarding mentality of this crap.
