cat removal gains???
will I feel a difference if I remove the cat and replace with a test pipe. I know there will be gains, just not sure if it is worth the time. I have a greddy header and evo cat-back. Where I registered my car does not require emissions test.
you gain DB. you gain a raspy buzzing sound at certan RPM ... also even though you dont have emissions ... realize with no cat .. that is against Federal law ... and Technically if the police really wanted to they could seize your vehicle.

That's just for the cat. You'll also need to have flanges and an O2 bung welded on. You can get this work done at any muffler shop.

I had a high flow cat and test pipe.... both sounded raspy/buzzy

if you arent putting down much power, it will do very little.
if you are far from stock (ie a built allmotor or turbo) it can do a lot of good.
the flange on the cat is a bottleneck(a lot of people overlook this and instead are always concerned about the material inside the cat)
keeping the stock cat when you upgrade the whole exhaust is not the best idea.
if your stock cat is clogged or rotted it will do a lot of good. hth

Don't be another of those loosers that say:
"I heard on the internet that if you take the cat off you will gain 5 billion HP, I heard it on the internet so it must be true"
[sigh]

Don't remove your cat. The tree huggers will form mobs around your car with flaming torches.
Instead, might I recommend removing your rear seat. I've read somewhere on the internet that this is good for atleast 5-10hp.
Just joking. Seriously though, there are good aftermarket catalytic converters out there. Just do a search, and you'll find what some people are doing.

I poped out my cat. I've noticed gains too. I only poped it cause it was all messed up already. just little buzzing when I do cold starts, other n that...its been great to me. maybe its just the cold weather that makes the buzzing. I hope this does not change the colour of the smoke coming outta my exhaust.

Instead of "poping" your cat for the buzzing, maybe you should have just removed the cat shields......

I just bought a '94 GSR and the dood ran a straight pipe but didnt use a flex-pipe. THe pipe is now cracking every 3days after being welded. I'm looking for a aftermarket cat w/flanges.....anyone know where to get one???? oh yeah....stock motor.
Just get yourself one of these from ebay for like $40...

They call it a "high-flow cat" but really it's just a resonator. You get the benefits from a test pipe but it's not quite as loud.
I'm pleased with mine, I felt some gains. "some" gains is pretty good for $40.
