Default D15B vtec timing issues

I put a D15b vtec in my '92VX. the stock timing belt was past its 80k so i bought a new 1 from napa to put on the D15B. I bought a '92 VX belt from Napa . Its in a shop and they are saying my timing belt was off 2 teeth, and that i put the wrong belt on it. Did i get the wrong yr for my 1.5L vtec timing belt? What should i tell them to set the dizzy @? Or just say line up the pointer and the white stripe on the crankshaft pulley, horizontal cam marks with the head surface? should it be timed like a VX 1.5L or a Z6 cuz it has some z6 characteristics? Please some1 who knows respond, i don't need "i heard". I need facts so my ride will last and not bend any valves. thanks

AFAIK, you're supposed to use the D16Z6 timing belt on a SOHC VTEC D15 (i.e. D15 mini-me or JDM D15B), not the D15Z1 timing belt.

Read this: https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=1

I honestly don't know though. Sorry.

VX belt = 103 teeth
Z6 belt = 104 teeth
B7/B8 belt = 106 teeth

I'd go with the Z6 belt first and see how that works out for you

ok i had to show the bonehead working on my belt w/honda factory service manual for the 92 VX 1.5L sohc Vtec(E). You must use a VX timing belt because the JDM D15B sohc Vtec is a 1.5L and the belt # is the same,i saw on another bbs thread.. Dseries? Well jackasses @ the shop wasnt reading some BS usdm belt book properly - it isnt super clear in the book that VX is vTEC and 1.5L. He was under the mistaken impression - HTF?? that vtec wasnt made till '94 . I showed him the vx is 1.5L vtecE from 92-95, the Ex/Si 1.6L Vtec from 92-95 as far as D-series vtecs. Know he knows. BTW you line up the CAMSHAFT tdc on jdm DB by the UP being 90degrees approx and the lines marked on the opp sides horizontal with the cylinder head & a Pointer towards the rear of the cylinderhead/upper portion of the block. the dizzy is kinda in the middle of the top mount. i have a horrible time posting pics here. I repeat for JDM D15B sohc vtec use the VX timing belt! Not the Ex/Si d16Z6 . This is not the mini-me its a complete 1.5L block, not ame as Bauley's super freak motor .

Thanks for those who responded- i can't work on my honda barely cuz i just moved into a trailer park

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Now everyone will know for future reference. JDM D15B gets the D15Z1 belt, and D15 mini-mes get the D16Z6 belt.

hmmm thats interesting that it uses the z1 belt. I would have thought it would be the same as bauley's car because the heads are basically the same and both blocks are 1.5 liters.

It may have to do with the # of gears/teeth on the geometry or arrangement of the tensioner/H2o pump and orientation of the head in regards to vtec head on non-Vtec block. The belt (Z1) is tightened just right, not too tight or too loose.

Last yr when i was forced to do a vtec to NOtec conversion-SMOG- i used a 1.5L belt. Cant recall what yr belt was from. My old EF had a ZC sohc vtec in it but i had to put on an A6 head for the ref. It still pulled like a champ w/o vtec.
