I have a 93 civic SI, and I have been having some problems lately.....

When shifting normally, it's fine. Going from 1=>2 fine, 2=>3 fine, 3=>4 fine 4=>5 fine


But say I wanna turn into a neighborhood, If I go from 4th or 5th into 3rd, it won't let me. I'm going like 20 MPH and it won't let me. If I push hard enough it will go in.

Down shifting into 2nd is just fine. Just going into 3rd is the problem.

Another instance is when I'm on the freeway going 55 MPH, and I need to downshift to pass someone. Going from 5=>4 fine, 5=>3 won't go in.

If I quickly go into 2nd, but don't let go of the clutch and then into 3rd, it works. What could be going bad in my tranny?

 

3rd gear synchro maybe is gone? Or a broken shift fork somewhere...try some GM synchromesh and if that doesnt work look for a new trans

I'm sort of a noob, but what is GM synchromesh?
