I read on pure honda forums that my 97 del sol si has a b16y8, i keep reading that my car is dohc, but i have also read that it is sohc. Please let me know!

 

Could have a D16y8 (single cam)or a B16a3(dual cam). just pop your hood and see what the valvecover says if its dohc you will know it cause it will say DOHC VTEC

 

post a pic, or look for the engine code on the front of the block, where the tranny meets the block, underneath the front left side of the valve cover....

either it's a d16y8 that's been swapped in or its a b16a3?

 

I'm pretty sure you mean D16Y8, an SOHC D-Series engine. The Del Sol Vtec has the B16(what you are thinking of, 160hp), which is a DOHC motor.

 

it doesnt have to be a swapped in d16y8. the si's come with that stock...some that is. its either b16 or d16y8 STOCK.

 

del sols had d16z6's not y8's in 1995

Not maybe, it IS a y8. 96-97 came with the y8. And since he already said it's an Si it came with VTEC, just not the DOHC VTEC So it's a SOHC.

del sol si from 92-95 had d16z6 and 96-97 had d16y8 both SOHC vtec.
the only dohc vtec del sol was the del sol dohc vtec which had a b16

 

all 96-00 civics came with y8's and 92-95 z6.
so if his del sol is 96-98 it was y8
his car either has d15b7 z6 y8 or a3..

 

an easier way to tell... if he obviously doesnt reconize a differnce in a DOHC and SOHC valve cover... where is the red line... 6500 or 6800 would be sohc non vtec, 7k would be sohc vtec, and 8kish would be dohc vtec

Thats funny cause looking outside at my 99 Civic with factory motor which is not a y8.

 

Check and see what the valve cover says and if that fails then post some pics so people can tell you for sure.

 

How much you pay for insurance? That will tell ya.

 

Note that OBD2 Del Sol VTECs have the B16A2, not the B16A3 found in OBD1 Del Sol VTECs.

pop the hood and if all the spark plugs are in the middle of the valve cover and in a little indented trough type thing you have the b series if they are to the front or to the back and aren't in a little trough type thing then you have the d series

WTF are you talking about? Only the EX came with a Y8. The HX came with a Y5 and everything else came with the Y7.

 

if its an si then you have the y8 motor.
