I have a 98 accord ex v6. I got it with 60,000 one owner miles last Summer. I now have 76,000 mile. It started throwing codes : P0730 "defective shift control system" and P0740 "defective lock-up control system". It started off drivable then approx. 10 miles later the trans. started shifting crazy and then going out of gear and then back in. I had a mech. reset the computer and it drove ok for about 3 days then one morning it happenned again. The car has been sitting for about 7 weeks now. Honda wants around $4000 for a rebuild and there is a "Howard" reman. trans. that cost around $3700 installed with a 50,000 mile warr. which includes parts and labor as well as towing and rental car while its in the shop. I still owe $9,500 on the car so that adds to the problem of which way to go. I did have the trans. serviced by Honda when I got the car at about 63,000 miles. I have been told that I need a new trans. and I do know that some of these yrs. did have issues and that the 2000-2001 got extended warr. to 100,000 miles. If I try to sell it I will lose that way too---so I'm stuck either way.

Any advice on other options, other trans., suppliers, etc. would help.

Will the later model trannys 99-2001 fit my 98? Or will my engine/computer have trouble with them???

I believe that any V6 Honda Transmission from any of the 6th gen accords will fit your car, ur best bet may be to loacte a tranny from a junk yard urself and have them put it in. You may also want to call Honda USA to inquire and find out exactly what years the extended transmission warranty covers. I believe your car should be covered.

 

Only the 2000-2001 models are covered by the ext. warr.

The salvage yard idea is in the works now but I dont have any prices back yet. Still its a gamble that way. Thanks.
