Default Spoon SW388 / Rota Slipstream *Difference*

I know this question has been asked a lot but I just bought my crx and I asked what type of rims were on it and he said "spoon" I asked nothing more about them because I didnt even like them and thought he was joking.

Just yesterday I saw an ITR with that he claimed to be "spoon" wheels.
Thye looked exactly like mine but they are very similar right?

My wheels have been powdercoated white so there is no stickers on them.

Is there anything I can do to find out if there slipstreams or Sw388's?

Because I dont wanna sell spoons for the $350 slipstreams go for or sell the slips for the $1000 the spoons go for

well the spoon rims weigh 8 lbs if they are 15's. and the rotas weigh 12.. so weigh difference come into play...also I believe the edges on the spoons are more sharp and the rotas are more rounded, but I think there has been a couple threads on this..so search too

If you can't tell the difference between rota and regamaster, you shouldn't be playing with cars.

Most can tell just by the finish.

Spoon SW388=flat black color
Rota Slipstream=glossy black color

I cant tell by the finish because they have been powedercoated white.

And why should I not be able to be around cars because I dont know this difference?

I have no real need for these rims, nor do I like them

Just dont wanna rip someone off nor get screwed myself

There will be a stamp on the wheel that will tell you. I don't even know what it says, but it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

they should have some sort of stamp if im correct. Aren't the desmonds made in russia. Try looking for something inside the wheel.

You're right. As far as I remember (been a long time since I saw a real sw888 ), it will say "Made by Desmond" on the back of one spoke near the center and "Russia" somewhere next to it.

true that...and if you tried to sell powdercoated rims (it doesnt even matter if they ARE real sw388's) i highly doubt anyone would pay near retail.

yeah it's pretty retarded that people would pay more for ashy flat black wheels than the same wheels powdercoated with a nice finish.

yea definately one of the eaziest ways to tell is the finish on the rims....its harder to tell if you get the slipstreams finished flat then u have to look for the desmond sticker or the russia stamp on the back.

15"s are the hardest to tell
i think with 16" the difference is like night and day....in 16" rota slipstreams there are lug holes in between the lug slots...in 16" spoons there are only lug holes...(i hope that made sense heres a pic....they are both real spoons btw.

I took this picture just for topics like this. Slipstreams have 'ROTA' stamped on the backside of the wheel.

So it's really that hard to tell?

*Goes to buy Slipstreams, paint them flat black, and tell everyone they're SW388's.*

without taking the wheel off the car if you look between the spokes on a rota the theres a faint lip that connets the spoke to the next one if you look and a spoon/desmond theres no lip connecting the spokes it just fades into the wheel and is flat/smooth between the spokes.

the edges...

Spoon SW388

If you look closely, the edges are sharper.

Rota Slipstream

Well rounded edges.

This is the only other major difference I've found besides looking at the actual markings for production location.
