You really sound like a "nasa pro racer".... With no background, and with most not even know where/what this shop is....... I doubt most will care.

Most shops will do that if you go in with attitude. They would rather lose one customer than have to put up with someone copping an attitude. Lot of shop owners I know are like that.

Why would a shop looking to get your business dis your car?

Unless its constructive criticism and they want you to buy some of there parts

What part of City of Industry is it in? That sucks when they treat their customers like crap.

A business is there to make money. Why do they need to "hook you up" on prices? What have you done, or will do for them in order for them to justify reducing their gross margin on product?

ceas..

most shops will get fed up if you keep asking for a hook up.

Dont bust out saying "I can get it cheaper somewhere else" Cuz then why dont you just go get it there?

Shops gotta pay for their overhead you know. Not like some places that only sell on the net with no rent (besides cheap hosting fee) to pay.

You don't have to say "hook me up" all the time. Sometimes I ask a shop how much an item is and they will ask me "what's the best quote you have been given so far?" and then I tell them the truth on the amount and where.

Yeah I have always had mixed experiences with shops. Finally I found a good one (Intec Racing in Kent, Wa). They aren't the cheapest on parts, but I don't go to a shop for parts anyway. I go to Dyno (which they hook me up for insanely low price, $60/hr with wideband) and to talk to smart guys with fast cars that know what they're doing...

However if you go in asking for hookups before you get to know the guys, don't expect much.

My guess is that attitude is why you don't get any deals. Ever hear that you get more flies with honey than vinegar? I got 4 GSR hammers with almost new tires for $250 3 years ago from a shop, I got bodywork and a paintjob including clear coat on my car for $750 from another shop. People can spot an ******* before they come in the door. Attitude shows before you even open your mouth. You may not see it but others do.

Heres a hint, drop the attitude, try being nice and personible and you will get a hookup. Not everytime but when they can expect a lot of business you will get it, not for a onetime sale of a $20 item. They have overhead costs including their salary. Thats why they can't charge wholesale prices and stay in business. Next time you want paid for something how would you like hearing , I can get someone else to do your job for 1/2 what you want, why don't you cut your rate for me.......... See what its like from their side.

i never asked for a hookup.

my experience with shops is if you try to talk cars with them, they roll their eyes like you know nothing, unless you're paying $4,000 for a B16 swap through their shop, and then you're smart and fast and cool.

shops are gay

Well, our experiences are way diferent then, I almost always can get a deal at a private shop that I do repeat business with. And I don't even have to ask for it, usually. Like I said, you can put out a "vibe" that can put people off if you walk around with an attitude. If there is anything I have learned since I was that young its that.

you said it RIGHT THERE.. REPEAT BUSINESS

Not many if any shops are going to give a deal to a guy who's spending $30 for the first time there.

You're right dude. However, the customer service should be just as good for the $30.00 spender compared to the $4000 spender. I know it's hard for them to not be more generous to the $4000 spender because you get excited when someone spends that much in your store. But the thing is, you never know when the $30.00 spender might just come in and drop 4 Grand on a swap.

Bro I don't mean to chastize you but take some advice on dealing with new people. Be pollite, and sincere, a first name & handshake are a good start. Earn your respect as a person with class & HONESTY. Because you drive professionaly does not entitle you a good deal. If you have a pal who frequents the shop, bring him along to help lay some ground work down for ya. Let your buddy speak of your accomplishments, not yourself! Purchase nesessary USEFUL items on a regular basis, Lubercants, Filters, Hoses, & Never be too COOL TO LISTEN. Interject with some past truthful experiences of your own! After you do these SMALL NICE SINCERE things that stand out in a world of SELF, & ME, ME, ME. You WILL aquire HOOKUPS and make many friends along the way.

Exactly, and very well put. Its the same skills that makes salesmen, politicians and anyone who deals with the public sucessfull if they master it. Take my word for it. at 22 I thought I was being cool and nice, but at 42 I really understand what I was doing wrong at the time. Its very possible you are giving off bad vibes and not even be aware you are doing it. I routinely Shop at a specialty Deli, and get 50% discounts off everything I buy. Now how many food stores do that for you. Other shops can be the same, If you are a consistant customer, and you know who to butter up, how and when.

Shops ****** suck...buy online then work on you're own car.

Here in Toronto people talk down to you all the time....doesn't matter if you are nice. Unless you have big **** or are dropping a lot of cash they'l treat you like a dumbass.
