Just purchased a 96 Honda Accord EX 5spd
well, I'll have it on Saturday of this week. The engine seems to idle a bit unsmooth. I'm going to change the plugs and fuel line cleaner through it, I hope that will fix it. Otherwise, it's got 99k miles on it, and was regularly serviced at a Honda dealer, so it should be nice.
I plan on (when I have the money again) putting in an AEM V2 Cold air Intake, just for a small increase in HP and Torque, I'm curious if you think that's a good idea or not. Aswell, is there a cheaper version of this? (since these run at roughly $200~). And I'm purchasing a Spoiler for it like this one, because I believe it will look nice.
Otherwise, heads up on anything I should watch on the car, or any other Minor mods I could do to it for a possible power increase?

Great choice on the ride..congrats on the purchase..I would stick to your plan and buy the AEM..you will just end up wanting it in the long run anyhow..as far as the wing goes.. im not a big fan of wings but its such a personal item...go with what you want...welcome to HT...
'wing' makes it sound like I'm putting a large piece of sheet metal on two pegs onto the car... I think it would look nice with that spoiler on it.
and it just had a new honda exhaust put on it.
Also, it has new performance tires.. the company starts with a B, I forget the name (import tires, not a domestic brand)

nice choice on the 96 bro--consider the factory oem spoiler, it is similar but not as elevated. just my opinion/suggestion. under a 100k for a 96 is a great platform to start with. do some research until your fingers hurt and you will find endless mod options and things for it.
yeah the lower picture is the factory one, but its your vehicle and at least its not the 3 foot metal wing that only serves a purpose if you race at higher speeds.

DO NOT get teh V2.....for accords its not even a true cold air intake, and the extra price is NOT worth it at all....ive got the origional AEM CAI <= i like it alot, a TINY bit more top end power, but it sounds hella cool

200$ for a intake is just BS in general :], for that price you can get your throttle body bored out. or buy other useful parts...

Congrats on the purchase, I have a '99 LX 5-speed, it's a nice, quick car (even with a I4 in it, with the manual it's quick).
You can buy some factory aftermarket stuff for your car at http://www.handa-accessories.com , though the pickings are slim for Hondas prior to '98.
I dunno about the spoiler, personally I don't like them and recommend putting the money into a new stereo or shocks.
Also, take a close look at your hubcaps, I assume the '96 has the plastic ones the '99 has. You can buy new plastic hubcaps for ~ $15 or so each, if yours are scuffed up at all new ones will make a world of difference.
Oh, and spend ~ $14 or so on a Haynes manual for your car (available from Autozone, Pepboys, etc), it'll tell you how to fix almost anything on your car or how to take it apart, quite useful if you ever want to get in your door panel, take the dash apart, etc.

I think u mean only the 94-97 Accords is SR.. THe 6th gen versions are real CAI but its still not worth it IMO. Maybe you 5th gens can get teh 6th gens and put it on your 5th gens.
Theres a post about it on v6performance.net with PICS.

Nick H: let me be the 3rd to ask. Where'd you get that? Very nice. I am spoilerless right now, and until this very minute planned on going with a stock spoiler. Yours just looks too good, so, please.... where can you pick those up?

THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!!, the kit and all i mean

the kit is called the azect kit...i have the front lip made by them and it looks real nice...the wing is an oem honda part but it also has a mugen stamp on the inside, so i guess mugen makes it, but it's an oem part for the 96-97 Si-R in japan??? anyways, you would have to get it imported if you really want it...keep checking ebay and you'll eventually find one...
wow that jdm si-r spoiler looks great i might get one for my own 96 accord. Also i was looking at that spoiler depot and i couldnt find my color for 96 its kinda grey/beigecolor shown here what color name is this?

The color should be stamped inside the driver's side door. Also under the hood, I believe.
