Default DC race header ?

is the DC race header that much different than the JDM DC 4-1? I can see the obvious, such as that it is longer and it dumps under the car, but my question is, is are the tubes larger or different in length....? Also is the collector that much better than the JDM DC?

thanks
scott

If I remember correctly it is still more expensive than a HyTech header...

Someone is ignorant of what DC can and has to offer...and you can't find it on some damn webpage.

I like DC, they are very good at offering STREET LEGAL headers, and there Stainless steel models have some beautiful welds on them.

i remember sports compact car did a header test on a GSR a while ago and they tested out the DC race header. i think it gave around 15 hp in the mid range and around 10 in the top end. pretty impressive but not street legal at all!! . oh yea, the price was somewhere between 1500-1700 and the exhaust gas is dumped underneath the car. and the installation was a bitch to do according to the article.

My friend ran this before, it spit out fire occasionally. But I suppose you could get the same results with any system without a cat.

My question was that other than the header dumping under the car is there a difference between it and the DC JDM 4-1?
Does anyone know?

thanks

If I am going to pay $1500 for a header, for sure I wouldn't want the name DC on it.

If I am going to pay 30k on a car, for sure I wouldn't want the name DC in it's chassis code. Oh, wait a sec...

I don't really know much, but $1500 for a race header/exhaust made out of titanium doesn't sound like too bad of a deal to me, especially considering how much power it can make. If I were building a track-only car I could spend $xxxx on a high-end japanese header, exhaust and straight pipe, or I could get the titanium DC race header and save dollars and pounds.

Or maybe I could get a custom job, but then how am I assured of the quality of the work? At least DC has a large user base. Whether it's people complaining about them or people raving about them, at least people are talking. That's probably a lot more than most custom shops.

That being said if it were me in that situation I'd probably get SMS to do me one.

I guess you guys forgot about all the podiums Taz Harvey has collected with this header on his Type-Rs, the question being asked is about their race only header, not the 4/2/1 you see scraped up on every LS. Ignorance is bliss.

There are 3 different options on the header. ceramic, stainless and titanium. The ceramic is like approx $500, the stainless is approx $800 and the titanium is approx $1500.
Who cares about the price I just wanna know whats different about it, but guess the price thing always wins out.

later

OK...I can help a bit here. I know that many of you hate DC I also know why...lol BUT, this system I swear to you is the exception to the rule. It is a powerhouse. I didn't dyno it but, I can tell you that after I installed it the results were astounding.

Like someone said..... DC claims 15 WHP and 12 Ft/Lbs TQ. I believe it has a 2 1/2 inch collector and the primaries are huge.

It is LOUD. I got pulled over in like 5 minutes Had to take that sucker off..LOL
If you are going to use this at the track, I think you would like it. But don't dream of using it on the street.

I have one for sale if you are interested. I now have a JUN header and don't need it.
It has 2 small SCRATCHES on the bottom, NO dents NO obstruction of flow. Mine is the stainless version which retails for $1000. Fits right on factory hangers.

If anyone is interested, I will sell it for $450 +Shipping.

Here are some pics.

Well let me know.... nycmad@si.rr.com

it's really too bad the old archive here was purged since there was a nice discussion by Dave (SMSP) and John (Hitechex)..when they were still talking to each other... on the merits of using titanium on a header and how the softness of the alloy was not practical for street use.

yeah SCC mag made a boo boo and called it an Airmass on the dyno....

just over 6 ft long and 15 lb with a 15.1 whp gain...for $1500 US in 1999

SIINSI: Can you please measure the outer diameter of the primaries and flange port diameter (it's oval so I should say length) with a Vernier caliper and tell us what they are on your SS DC Race header? thanks

Hey guys, sorry for the stupid question, but what makes one header better than another? Just how thick it is?

how big the collector is, the quality of the welds, smoothness of the primaries and what not, and bends etc.

I wonder if it is possible to bolt up the end of the DC race header to an exhaust and actually run an exhaust with it to reduce the sound level and drive it on the street? I know this will defeat the purpose of it, but will this still give more power than other header/exhaust set up?

So all in all, where does this header stand? I suppose because of it's design, it is compareable to the HiTech header(long version). DC boasts 15 whereas Hitech claims 20. What do you guys think?
