There comes a time in ones life...
When all the pieces come into place, you realize how amazing your car is, and you never want to get rid of it. That time came last night. My freaking car was sick and the cold air outside made it feel like it was boosting. I kid you not it was breaking traction in 3rd gear vtak. It felt violently fast for an all motor set up. The smile on my face was bigger than the day I got it, and I thought to my self that I was finally happy with the car after all the hard work, sweat, blood, frustation, and suffering. My car has been through a lot, and pushed me to the edge at times, but I stuck it out and last night was one of the first times I felt joy
Craig, sorry to bite off your thread title, its just a joke so dont take any offense to it
Good luck to you
With everyone leaving the forum and their R's behind, I just thought I would spread some R cheer for a change. There are many of us that have moved on or are planning to move on. But there are also those of us that still love the car and dont want to get rid of it. We might not frequent the forums as much, but the love is still there. Anyone out there feeling frustrated and sick of dealing with it, my advice to you is stick it out. If you are out there doing the work yourself, then its even more gratifying in the end. No, I dont have "ITR BLINDERS" and I know the R is not the best car on the road. But I also know that its a pretty special car that was ahead of its time, and still a contender today, and at the moment I couldnt be happier with it
PS. Stock exhaust ownz.
PSS. STi what?

This is actually a great post to have at time where the R is losing its luster to allot of us. For all of us that are moving on, there are new car lovers coming in to take our place. The R will always be one of the best track cars for its time and I defiantly will miss it.

That isn't true I don't think. A lot of the people who are leaving, are just leaving HT, not their R. And a lot of people are just moving onto bigger and better things in life and deciding to put family ahead of a car. Totally understandable.
I haven't lost any lust for my R. I was supposed to get it out of winter storage today but it's snowing like a **** so it's in there another week, and I'm as bummed as bummed can be. I was really looking forward to this day.

Dont get me wrong, I would never expect someone to put their R(or any car or anything else for that mattre) ahead of family and their future. I have reached the point were Im done with the car as far as modding it or upgrading. For me, now is the time to ENJOY it the best I can. I dunno about you guys, but I cant wait for Expo since I have never been and I just hope that the excitement for Expo is similar to what it was last year since I missed out.

RTW DC2, no no, I didn't think that at all. Just trying to think like someone who says it's time to move on.
I don't think anyone would put a car in front of their family...
And oh yeah, you won't ever be done modding the R...you are just taking a break.

Ditto.
No plans to ditch the R for a woman or some saner existance.
Hell, the wife even did a CT to Miami road trip round trip.
If the woman don't like the ride, dump the woman not the car.
Just IMHO of course.

Right.....
Look at this old POS mustang. Its worth 4x what it cost new, and its nothing special.
http://adcache.collectorcartra...0.htm
Or this one. $31,000. I think it probably cost $5,000 new:
http://adcache.collectorcartra...0.htm
I cant think of any other modern car that has the markings of a collectible like the Type-R does....
I expect it will be worth 2-3 times what it is now in 20 years. You better start saving your pennies if you want my car.

I bet that in 20-30 years some of you right now selling there itrs will want to get another one., Its just like everyone in the 40-50s right now wanting old GTO's, Roadrunners, etc.

I have news for you Rob, 20 years from now, even a fair condition R will be worth a fortune (relatively speaking) considering they will be extinct. And if history repeats itself (as it usually does) ITR's are on their way to being one of the most sought after collector cars of our time.
Now, with that being said. If I had an unlimited supply of cash and garage space, I'd definetly keep my R long term, hell even pass it on to my son. But since I dont. I prefer to garage queen an equally affordable car with much sharper fangs, considering my MSP handles just as well if not better than a stock R (maybe not better, just less likely to betray you at the limit), and gives me plenty of enjoyment as a daily driver.
Enjoying your R, does not constitute ITR BLINDERS. Belonging to an ITR forum and or owners club and behaving as if we're all a bunch of Mclaren F1 owners does!
The R is still a great car, but demand fuels the market, and the bar has been raised. In many ways the ITR is responsible for the bar being raised because it was so great and ahead of it's time when it was introduced to the US market.
That it made all the other manufacturers take notice and do something about it.

Nicely put! I know exactly how you feel. I don't own an R but I have gone through so much with my cars but with each one there has always been a moment of true satisfaction and accomplishment.
