Default 90 Accord LX Questions on self fixing.........

Hello,

In my car the lighter assembly is broken. Basically the lighter itself broke off what its attached to. Is there an easy way to fix this or will it need to be done professionally? Also on the passenger door the interior door handle housing is broke....is this something I could fix myself easily? The last thing is I need a new power antenna. The whole thing needs to be replaced.....Something easily done by me or not? Thanks for any help given.

for the lighter, just get a needle nose plier and pull the broken part off, and replace it with a new lighter from any local auto store and thats done...

im not sure about the 90 accord, but 94's theres a screw right where the handle is, take off that screw and the plastic part comes off, buy a new handle and reverse for installation...

sorry cant help ya with the antenna part, i dont know what to do with that myself..

On my car it's like the whole lighter is broken off. if I were to get a new assembly how do I replace it? Because the whole lighter assembly needs replacing. Also when I remove the door handle housing will the actual interior handle come off with it, because when i look on ebay for a door handle housing, another handle is included. Thanks.

umm for the whole assembly you might need to get behind the center console,, its not that hard of a job, just a few plugs and screws to take out... and for the handle i think you need to replace that whole interior handle housing, its not that much anyway, so its not that bad...

RE: Power antenna. I see many Honda's of this vintage with busted antennas. Either the mast is busted, or the motor and gear down below.

The mast is easy to fix. You can buy them on Ebay for $20, or at the dealer for around $50. Just MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TRIM ANYTHING OFF THE END OF THE TOOTHED FLEX NYLON SHAFT. You may have to take the housing apart down by the motor to get all the pieces of the old flex shaft out. If you don't get them all out, then the new shaft won't go in all the way.

Usually what happens is that the toothed nylon shaft core of the mast gets stiff and brittle with age, and eventually breaks down at the bottom where it has to make the tightest turns.

If the motor no longer will pull the antenna all the way way down, even after you clean it out, then the teeth on the gear drive down below are worn out. I've seen motor assy's on Ebay go for $80 or so, but a new one will set you back a few hundred $ (I think, been a while since I checked). I bet you could find one at a junkyard, pick-a-part place, but make sure its a unit from a car with low miles.

For the door handle, unsrew the screw holding it to the door. Then apply pressure towards the front of the car. It should slide forward, then pull towards you.

After than. take a small screw driver and push the rotating clip off the rod.
