Default Updates on my car and her problems (with pictures)

My gs-r was burning oil... we figured out why after a leakdown test (93%), and compression test (60, 60, 90, 60). My rings were completely gone and I had two options. Rebuild the block right then and there, leaving the daily driver in the shop for god knows how long. Or swap in the ITR block chillin in the shop. I chose the latter... and opted to get a clutch to hold the high rpms (reprogrammed ecu). Here are some pictures before and during the surgery. I've left some details out of the story as to not bore you. If you have questions just ask. My current set up now is hmmm... toda spec b's, toda cam gears, itr intake springs, stiffer inner springs, titanium retainers, port and polished head w/ a 3 angle valve job, skunk2 manifold, itr t-body, aem cai, dc sports 4-1 (bottleneck, i know, i'm gonna wait for hitechs), apexi ws exhaust, b18c5 block, and a new exedy clutch... I don't think I've forgotten anything.

The halo around the piston is from the wetspots

Here's the "new" engine

And I just thought this was a cool picture

I'll be leaving for California next friday for dyno tuning. I'll keep you updated on numbers.

I hate to think about it but that might be my problem also. I have a 96 gsr and am burning way tooo much oil. about how much were you burning say from oil change to oil change? Did you have any leaks. Any estimates oon how much it would be to hon the block and change rings?

Even leaving oil in for a year shouldn't cause the rings to go bad that quickly right?

the reason for the piston rings going was because of the presence of fuel in the oil, and fuel not being a lubricant etc. etc.... I'm assuming, and this is a large assumption, for the fuel being in the oil was because I was running super rich, which I didn't fix soon enough... yes, I should have.
I didn't do the work myself (I am a chicken) I have a wonderful mechanic who takes me through everything tho, step by step, he is a wonderful man. I will babysit his kids.
Anyhow... yes, I will rebuild the gs-r block. I have no idea the costs for the old block to be repaired. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas for the bottom end, I'm up for 'em all. I'm also looking for places to get the work done, maybe in the so. cal area... so if any of you know of any places as well, I will take all advice. Thanks

A bit of advice: you need to get the Toda Valvespring Kit if you're running Spec B's w/a reprogrammed ECU w/a higher rev limiter. I would suggest you do it now while the motor is out of the car. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I already have valve springs and retainers that can handle the high rpm's. They were installed while I was getting the headwork done.
Question, why would this be a joke?
Another question, how confident are some with the endyn pistons. I know one awesome set-up with rw's in the block. But are they reliable anymore?

*shaking my head* I guess you're going to learn the hard way. Don't say we didn't try to warn you. Those that you have are going to damage your cams. Glad you have the $ to spend, b/c you're going to need it when your current valvetrain fails. There's a REASON Toda tells you to get the Toda Valvespring Kit with Spec B's...b/c the spring rates are manufactured SPECIFICALLY for those cams.
