F**kin' Tranny Problem. Help Please!!!!!!
I have a 84 accord as some of you may know. lately, well for a few months that i've been driving the car, i've notice that when i shift into any gear that it is pretty hard. it is most noticable whenever i downshift. i have change the oil, oil viscosity and tranny conditioner in my tranny many O times. i cant figure out how to make it alittle easier shift and i really dont have the money to get a rebuild or the time to drop the tranny to see whats going on inside to find the source. yes, i have replace the clutch so im pretty sure the clutch isnt the problem. Can someone get me an idea of whats wrong or something i can do to fix it myself right quick like?

im guessing this is a manual tranny???
do you notice a loud grind when u shift, even when u make sure the clutch is 100% depressed???.....does the problem go away if you double clutch???......these are sympotms of bad synchros....thats what im guess it is

I am assuming you have a manual tranny. Your problem could be several things. A couple that I can think of are worn syncro's, worn shift forks, etc. Given the age of your tranny, it may be time for a rebuild. Remember, manual trannies aren't as dependant on its fluid like an automatic. You shouldn't have to add any conditioner's or change viscosity.
im sorry how rude of me, yes i have a manual tranny. when i shift every now and then i will hear the gears grind alittle and sometimes it will slip out of gear. the majority of the time i do depress the clutch 100% and it really doesnt make any big of a difference.
now dropping the tranny and rebuilding it doesnt take that long or cost that much for the shifting forks, ect, Does it?
Certain cars are like that, though you may have a problem, I have a 2000 accord and it has the same problem, but it was totalled and still has the original tranny from the accident. My tenant has a brand new protegue or how ever its spelled and that too shifts hard
theres one thing you may want to try, go to a GM dealership and pick up some gm syncromesh friction modified tranny fluid, its very expensive stuff, but its well worth it. I use this stuff, and I swear my car has never shifted better. Its claimed to stop some grindage too, it does take a few thousand km's to work its way in but its amazing stuff.
If you do a search on honda-tech for GM syncromesh you will see many other honda drivers rave about the stuff too.
Just make sure you buy the right stuff, its the same **** that goes into the corvette manual transmissons.

That syncromesh stuff may be good stuff, I am not going to argue that. However, I believe using that stuff now, give the age of his transmission, is going to be more like a band-aid. What I mean by that is, It may help his tranny out a little, but the tranny will still need to be serviced sooner or later. Sorry I can't help you out on the price, I have never had a tranny rebuilt before.
