Turbo Kits or V6 for an Accord?
Howdy all,
Hoping to get a 97-or-later Accord ( 2-door ) with a decent V6....though it'll be a daily driver, I'd still like to make some aftermods.
Firstly, is the stock V6 for an Accord pretty decent, performance-wise? What would be a better V6 ( if there is one or more ) to be fitted into an Accord? ( I already had the idea of procuring an older V6 from a local junkyard, having the block re-bored and some parts re-conditioned and simply rebuild with newer components, should the [ stock ] Accord V6 be less-than-satisfactory.....any thoughts or advice on this as well? )
Also, found a couple of turbo kits for an Accord V6 online, but they're pretty up there in price ( cheapest being about $3,000 ). Is buying bits and pieces of one certain kit ( @ places like Ebay ) generally cheaper while not ripping one's self off at the same time? What is the ( generally ) best way of procuring a good turbocharger/kit?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I believe the price is reasonable. The turbo alone is easily 1500 bucks. Give or take for size and brand of the turbo. This is based on the price of the turbo on my truck. Its a HY35 from Holset. It can range from 1500-1800 depending on where you get it.
Then you will have to put a new exhaust and intake manifold on. All the piping for the turbo. Mounting the intercooler (if the kit comes with it). There is a lot of work involved in a conversion. If you do buy a kit, buy the complete kit. Trying to mix and match pieces from different kits could be a real headache.
I have never heard of a V-4 in a Honda. I always thought they were inline 4. My 03 Accord is any way.
Good luck with your purchase.

If you want to turn an Accord into a fast car, you are going to need a manual tranny. Those auto trannies are weak and can only take a certain amount of HP before they break.

There are ways to beef up an auto tranny. Putting in a stronger torque converter, valve body, maybe even the clutch paks. Don't know of any manufacturer that would make these parts though.

I plan to switch out the transmission for a 5-speed........Also, turbocharger, cool-air intake/intercooler, perhaps some smaller mods to add that little extra bit.....but in spite of all that, I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible ( I'm still partial to the older V8 big-block engines ).

In a situation like this Honda I-4 > V6.

dude, it's been tried and auto v6 tranny blew left and right esp. with FI.
again, you can beef up the auto tranny with that much work and money, you'll better off starting it with the right car. You just can't get that much-needed mechanical connection for turbo.
