I have seen a 2.5 RS down at the local races that beats almost everything, including a few mustang GTs.

I don't hear any forced induction from the motor so I'm in disbelief.

BTW-- for some odd reason, a stock ITR beat him though

 

They aren't actually that fast "stock." I was one week away from buying one. Once modified though they are WAY fast. Shouldn't be beating Mustangs though.

 

Yeah that's what I figured... this guy probably had some NOS or something, but you can't hear/smell anything!

 

stock, the term "fast" or even "quick" never crossed my mind when i test drove one. maybe with a turbo slapped on there. but with just bolt ons, its not gonna be much of a thrill. Just my opinion of course

 

They probably drop a EJ20 in there.

 

Yah, motor wise, just bolt ons wouldn't be enough. To be really powerfull you will need a turbo setup or the j-spec EJ20 in there.

 

How much horsepower and what kind of car does the EJ20 come in?

 

You mean drag strip or autox? What time was it running?

Was it a pre-WRX RS, or the current body style? The old ones have the same 165 hp engine and weigh about 2800 lbs.

The EJ20t is the 2 liter monster that comes in all WRXs old and new. In turbo form it ranges in power from 208-280hp or more. It also comes in Legacy's and turbo Foresters.

A stock 98-01 2.5 RS could do 0-60 in 7.5 on a really good day. the new one is a little slower cause it's heavier.

s l o w compare to an ITR. maybe it's squeezing NOS. The torque AWD would definitely get it off the starting line, but that's about it. Oh, maybe the guy was racing in the rain.

It wasn't the newer Impreza body style. It was the previous genreation with the agressive loooking front end.
