Default D-Series non-vtec cam question

Looking for a semi-agressive cam for a D15B7, I currently have a spare D16A6 cam, which would give a small gain but am looking into a regrind, possibly from Delta the 272 or exospeed.

Does anyojne have any specs on the Delta 272 or any personal experience on the gains and the idle. Any idea on the price of the 272? Their website does not contain a lot of information.

The Delta 272 is by no means mild. I have their 260 grind and I don't consider it streetable at all. The price was right at $85.

would you need to build up the head for the cam? or just run it stock with the cam

The 272 is very agressive and needs compression port work to run properly

so what cam would you suggest from Delta then, I have the regular bolt-ons. Just looking for something to make lapping days a little more enjoyable.

Also what can the stock valvesprings handle in terms of reving?

I need specs on their grinds, anyone with actual specs? And costd for the different levels?

I have the 272 on my F22... that won't help you much but I have looked into Delta stuff quite a bit and talked to a good cross section of Delta owners with different motors... It is a fairly aggressive profile for a non-VTEC motor and is really close to the non-streetable side of the spectrum...

From what I have gathered from different people, it seems that D's will have slightly above average idle issues with either the 260 or 272.. and unless you have upped the CR, and have done quite a few mods the 272 might be a bit much and actually slow you down a bit until you perform more extensive mods... You really need a decent amount of air/fuel mods to even begin to touch upon the 272's potential...things like 11:1+ CR, ported head, IM, TB, stiffer valve springs...etc.

I can just barely get away with daily driving on my 272... I think it would hurt more than help on a stock (or close to it) motor...

I have heard of D guys spinning this cam up to and even past 8000-8500k on stock valvetrains... I belive Delta says that as long as you aren't upping the stock rev limit you can get away with using the stock valvetrain...but that's no fun... so I'd upgrade the springs at a minimum and chip the ECU to do further fine tuning...it really helps...

If I remember right it's something like $55 for the 260 and about $85 for the 272... plus shipping...which is like $10 each way thru USPS...

As far as advertised specs go:

260 .400/.400 lift 260/260 duration
272 .420/.420 lift 272/272 duration

Anyways... in case you were curious about general things I've noted.... the most common non platform specific points I've found are the 260 will cause some slight idle issues and is very streetable as long as you have alot of boltons & the 272 idles even worse and the tq loss below 2000-2500 rpms is noticeable and fairly annoying but the mid/high gains are kickass...and you will fer sure want to raise your rev limit at some point...

I'm not really into D motors all that much and don't know all the ins and outs of it and like I said these are just things I've learned from talking to people with the same Delta grind as myself...So take it all for what it's worth, make up your own mind and talk to some people who have what you're looking to get...I've noticed one thing most Delta owners have in common...we're all more than happy to pass on what we know about these cams including little tips and tricks to whoever wants to know...

On a side note though... Everyone at Delta gets a big for customer service as well as finished product... Really smart people that will answer any questions you have... i learned some things just talking to them the first time...even got a confirmation call right before my cam went under the knife which i appreciated...They made a believer out of me....
good people who do good work for a good price...

So call em up and tell em what you are looking to do with your motor and they will fix you right up...

Oh and the 272 is seeming to be a good nitrous cam also...

Which has been confirmed by a guy with fairly extensivly modded F22A1 running the 272... and the 272 specs are fairly close to the specs that several other large cam grinders reccomend for big nitrous shots...def a wild street cam though...

Check sig.

I've had the 272 in for a couple weeks now. VERY streetable if you ask me. No problems at all. Slightly high idle when cold, around 2k, but it calms down and has a semi-rough idle around 1k rpm.

As you can see though it's not a stock motor.
I'm still pulling 30mpg, cam is all broken in and need to re-adjust the valves but other than that I have no issues. I think my compression is like 10.9:1 now as opposed to the stock 9.1:1 But that came form my y8 headgasket and the head milled .040.

This is all on my d16a6. non chipped pm6 and I've bounced it off the rev limiter a few times. Time to chip it cuz when it hits the limit she wants to go higher! I bet I could get power to another 1000-2000rpms now. She pulls great, much stronger than stock, even at low rpms.

So the only way to get ahold of Delta is via Phone calls? It sounds like the 260 is a better choice for me at the time.

also I can get ahold of a Bullfrog cam with the following specs:
PART NO.: HCCS07
POWER BAND: 4000 R.P.M. to 8200 R.P.M.
IDLE: (Good)
SPECIFICATIONS: Intake LIFT - 0.415 DURATION - 241
Exhaust LIFT - 0.421 DURATION - 228

Anybody use this cam, or have any comments on the specs? I do not know a ton about cams.

bullfrog used to list their camshaft duration in 1 mm lift ,so that will be arround 280ish seat timing duration. i dont have any experience with HCCS07 ,but my buddy using HCCS09 and it's really-really non streetable, or mild cam... the idle just like .. BAB BUB BAB BUB BAB BUB... and no power under 3500
