88 CRX Suspension rundown.
Well I have a 88 si, and looking for suspension kits for it is damn near impossible, but everyone with the 89-91 asys they wish they had my set up. Could you please rundown what really is so special baout the 88's?
88's have what is called "Passive rear steering". 88 models are more sought by road racers, because they're much more nimbler than other years CRX's, but Honda decided to descontinue this suspension setup after one year because the public said it was too oversteery.
You have to mod it differently, because putting a big swap bar in the rear, like you would do with a 89-91 CRX, is just an invitation to terminal oversteer.
Search around for "passive rear steering", and you will understand better. The rear lower control arms are very much alike those in the Integra Type-R.

It's not just the LCAs. Installing '88 LCAs will not change the handling of the later cars by themselves - the inboard mount for the toe link is lower on the body for the '88 cars; therefore, it changes the toe curve of the rear suspension during cornering.

can anyone else confirm this?
I didn't notice the difference on my cars; I'll have to check.

'88 crx + big rear sway bar = just right

No, the rear suspension is "similar" to a type R, but not identical. Get springs for any 88-91 civic/crx and you're fine. Its when you need to buy struts when they might be harder to find since 88s are different.

Thanks man. Tokico make struts for the 88 in the Illumina series, I heard these are pretty good. ANd what about the Tein Springs are they good compared to any others? (H&R, EIBACH...etc)
