Default ls/vtec knocking!

im not quite sure what it is...

its making a knocking noise from no 1 cylinder. it doesnt sound like the normal knocking like the described "tapping of a screw driver"

i punched it after getting out of a freeway going over to the friday night meet in union city and is notice that its making a loud noise.

my buddy and i pulled off the head today and the cylinders look ok but dunno about the valves. you guys think it could be bent valves? i did have quite a bit of slack on my belt but the timing looked ok. im taking it to the cylinder head shop tomorrow to have them take it off and see( sorry, dont have a valve spring remover)

could it also be detnating? im running a chip p28 but it seems bogous, i dont think it gave enough fuel because it boggs on lower rpm's...

heres my specs:

b18a
b16a head PnP@LDL
ctr pistons
ls head gasket
arp head stud
itr IM/TB
skunk2 stage II's
skunk2 cam gears
skunk2 valve springs
skunk2 retainers
vtec timing belt/waterpump/oil pump

give me some inputs guys! thanks

if the head was milled at all you will have problems withthe spark plug and or valves hitting the pistons. check the clearance. best tedious bet is to have your motor clayed

clearence should be ok... the head was only resurfaced, not even milled. i drained the oil and it had no metal shavings so im guessing that my rod/main engine bearings are ok... im gonna take off the oil pan to see whats up tomorrow.

any more possible culprit?

thanks for the comment omni... as for going with the ctr's i thought i would be better off with that compression because i didnt want to redo the motor if i didnt have enough compression that i wanted with the pr3's, guess i was wrong.

would it be better if i put on a cometic .40(.040) head gasket? i was gonna get the motor tuned next week when all of my parts came in but i had to drive my car and this happened... it sucks...

would it seal right if i had two head gaskets? if it'll seal i'll pick two up from honda tomorrow. also, whats the quench area? the chamber area?

sorry to ask all of theese questions. i know what i got into and i've seen and read of many setups thats just like what i aquired and they were running good(with tuning of course), thats the reason why i got this conbination.

If you were to use 2 headgaskets i would consider using some copper spray with it.

You don't need it for your intake manifold gasket..

Wait till you need to pull off that manifold.. it won't be nice and clean like a stock one would be.

ctr pistons are the problem

ctr pistons should never be used on pump gas unless they are going in a b16
