Default motor options for a 4th gen.

i have a 92 accord that I am planning to eventually build a motor up for.

what motor will provide the most reliable power and still can be upgraded further down the road.

also, where would I source the motor from? what model came stock with them?

I searched for a couple of motors that I saw mentioned. but the threads did not answer my questions.

so, basically. I need schooled on honda's...

What Toab said, 93-95 JDM H22A with the H22A transmission.

H22a. Be sure to get the tranny, ECUs, and as many wiring harnesses you can with the engine. There's motor mount kits made out there for a F22 to a H22 conversion.

Another option is building your motor up and boosting it .. trends show that the reliability is not as great as swapping an H in but you can reach close to 250 hp...

what cars can be sourced for an h22? preludes obviously but what else should I look for?

are the F22 and H22 they only motors that can be swapped in? or are there other combo's that will work.

how much does an accord weigh anyways? I weighed mine awhile ago and It was a little over 3,000 lbs. but I had a bunch of junk in it plus me (225 lbs)

200 hp with a stock h22 would be an improvement but I would need more to justify the swap.

whats your 1/4 times and with what motor/forced induction are you running?

I think it's well worth it, ESP if you get it with the H22A tranny!

are there any issues with boosting a stock h22?

compression ratio, cam compatability, ecu?

seems like most people are advocating a used engine swap, which given the durability of a honda motor I could understand. but if you are going to go through that much work, might as well make it well worth it.

if you have a H22 and boost it to no more then 6-8PSI on stock inturnals and have a good engine management system you shouldn't run into any problems in the near future. However, I HIGHLY reccomend building the engine up sooner ratheir then later if you go turbo. I would keep the H22 stock and maybe build it up a little for N/A. IMHO the H22 makes a great streetable motor as is in the accord

hmm, spending a couple of grand on a swap just for a mid to low 15 second quarter doesnt sound to appealing.

I guess buying the motor and rebuilding for low compression and boosting the hell out of it will be the only way to go.

so I take it that the H22 and F22 are the only motors that swap into the accord?

Correct unless you want to do some major modifying...question though are you only wanting to get your car to go as fast as humanly possible or reliable?

H22 all the way. Get a 92-96JDM swap and you get a solid deck too. Nice for the boost

Actually you can also get a low mileage H23 (92-96 Prelude Si) with transmission for a good bit less then the H22. and it's lower compression to begin with too. however you'll still need to keep the boost levels down untill you build it up (no more then 6-8psi).

baGged93aCcord: you have fast, cheap, and reliable. but you can only have two of those at a time :D

if its worth going through the trouble of motor swap and build up, then might as well make it well worth it.

a streetable mid 12 quarter would be fine for me.

its going to be about six months to a year before I can start on this project.

I have three others that I have to finish before I can start. or my wife will be kicking my ***.

I figured it would be best to start getting info and start piecing parts together (its easier to explain when you spread it all out)

if you want a B series you could sell the 4th gen and look for a 3rd gen hehe... bit more options there, not sure if those motors are gonna be tossing out the tq you need though
