how do i calculate my gas mileage?
Edit: I just searched and everyone is getting over 300 to a tank and im only got 177 and probably didnt even have a gallon left when i filled it up. WTH could be wrong with my car? I wonder if my trip meter is working correctly? could my low rpm miss be a factor?
Well i remembered a couple steps. As in top off the tank then run it to a certaint point ( i ran it near E) then went to the gas station and filled up with 91. But here's where i messed up. I first put 20 dollars on it but it went all the way to 20, so i ran in and threw down another 5 and forgot to log how much went in. But If i remember correctly it was about 8.770 gal and i had reset my tripometer(sp?) and got it to 177. This is running a sohc ZC DPFI auto, and i think something is wrong with my car. When im in lower rpm's (1-2k) i here something coming from under the hood, I think it coming from where my short-ram is? Sounds kinda like carberaters when there barely making it. You know that poof/puff sound?
This happens probably like once or twice every other day. Well thank you guys for your help.

fill up your tank, run it to any point, then fill it up again. then take the trip mileage and divide it by the number of gallons filled up
Civickiller has it right.
For the absolute best results, use the exact same pump, and let the pump automatically stop itself; No topping off! This will give you the most consistent numbers.

And do that about 10 times, and average the results.

Don't know about D or B series Hondas, but when I drive like an **** or at the track in the Miata I get <12MPG and normal highway cruise is 28-29MPG. WOT just pours gas in, aparently!

. This car is so damn slow you have to put your foot in it to get it to go. But even with my foot in it all the time will that zap over the extra 150+ miles per tank? I know a tune-up will definetly help. What in particular should i change? And like mentioned b4, i hear like a little puff noise around 1-1.5k rpm when i step on the pedal a little every 2-3 days, sounds like those old carbs when thier going up a hill or something? What could this be?

have you checked your timing? do you drive the car cold a lot? mine gets bad gas mileage but my daily ommute is only about 1 mile and a half so driving the car cold will get bad gas mileage.
Try a tune up.
I would start it all off with cleaning the injectors, throttle body, air filter and intake manifold out. If injector cleaner was added to the tank then I would go through a tank or two of gas and then chenge the fuel filter. The method where a vacuum line is pulled and put it into a bottle of injector cleaner has always worked wonders for me as far as cleaning out the manifold and valves is concerened.
Change the oil and filter. Might as well change out that old crusty PCV while you're at it. It's only a couple bucks anyways.
After that I would attack the ignition system with new plugs, cap, rotor, wires as well as a new O2 sensor. Doing this after cleaning out all the intake stuff ensures that your plugs and O2 aren't going to get fouled. Use regular copper plugs like NGK's. Don't try out some expensive platimums. They last long, but don't create the spark like a quality copper does.
Check timing. Make sure that this is done with the electronic timing advance disabled.
You may even want to consider having your exhaust checked out. If your engine was in bad shape then the cat could have been damaged and started to plug up. That would hinder performance and economy.
