Do a search under the user name Spade under recent and archived topics in the EG+Civic/Del Sol Forum here. It is titled SOHC or D-Series tech, a work in progress or something like that.
Literally EVERYTHING possible for SOHCs is covered in that topic.
If you don't find what you're looking for then please IM me and tell me exactly what you're looking for, and if you need to post a devoted topic to it then so be it.
For now this gets a lock because it's simply way too general/vague to have a good discussion about.
Don't take it personally please.

all in the compression and head workj, althought obvious bolt ons will help free up some ponies.
Think about it...D16Z6 has 9.2:1 compression, whereas a B16 has 10.6:1 and better port flow and intake manifold.
Bump some compression, free some flow...cam, port work, and bolt ons you'll be good.
Another thing to consider is the gearing. The best D series gearing ias as good as the worst B series gearing
