94 Accord EX engine code...
I have a 94 ex and everyone says its an f22b1, well i was putting my intake back on and i looked at it just to check and it said f22a1, and alot of ppl on here say that comes from a prelude, and mine has a black vtec valve cover where all accords i have seen have silver this year, so whats the deal? as far as i know the only owner before me was an old lady and didnt have a swap done...and f22a1 = non vtec? yet the valve cover says vtec and has the plugs up front which all obd1 vtec does i thought
heres the deal:
EX accords have the f22b1 SOHC motor (yes, the non-vtec preludes of the same era have the engine).......the black valve cover is on older 5th gens.....starting in 96(?), honda stopped coating the valve cover as a means to cut costs....the silver is just polished metal, and some people swap/powder coat their valve cover as well ....trust me, ur situation is not unique (my vavle cover is black too, and in fact, the **** is chipping off.....)

dude.....this has been resolved, and NO, it wont say SOHC Vtec, just VTEC (if its OEM).......if u have the stock engine on a 94-97 Accord, in an F22B1 SOHC Vtec, without a doubt.......if u scrape off the black ****, and spend time polishing the metal, it will look just like the "silver" valve covers
