Should I buy my GSR back at salvage (vandalism) from insurance company?
I can't seem to find a good answer to this, so I figured I'd ask the "experts" on here.
My GSR was placed on blocks and had the wheels stolen and leather seats, console cover, and shift **** stripped. (I guess I'm lucky the whole car wasn't jacked). Insurance company will total the car b/c of the replacement cost of the seats and pay me 14K for NADA value. I can buy the car back at salvage for $2300.
Black 2000 Teg GSR, no mods
5 spd, 34K miles
I figure I can either
1) Fix it up and keep driving it, but what happens when I want to sell it in 2-3 years (implication of salvage title)?
2) Buy it back and immediately resell it for > $2300 (possible?)
3) Take the 14K and walk away.
So I ask, what would you do?

I am also a trial user so I wont get PMs through Honda-tech.
So my response is I think you should sell the car to me =]

Buy it back, and take the rest of the money and buy an EG and swap the engine. Put the Integra on steelies and sell it as a rolling chassis for about $1000 and put the remaining money in the bank.
forget about taking the 14k and buying back the car. Ask them what is the maximum amount they are willing to pay to fix your car. Just take that money... Usually, they total your car when the damage is over 80% of your car, so if your car is worth 14k, that means they should be able to give you $11.2k to fix it (without totalling your car and getting a salvage title after you buy it back).
You don't want to total the car, buy it back with a salvage title.

this happened to the previous owner of my car.
they jacked the front seats (that's all). owner took a check for $20k, bought it back for like $5k and pocketed the rest.
really depends on what you want to do with the car. if you plan on keeping it forever, tracking it, and can do the work yourself >> consider what the thieves did a favor and buy it back replacing only what you have to.

pocket the money go get the stolen interior parts from the junkyard. When you go yo sell the car explain what happened to be a salvage title. Also take pictures of why they totaled it you can use those to sell the car as well.

I agree with most of the posts here. Since the car only has 34k, you should just buy it back. Fix it cheaply with junkyard parts and drive it. It is still a perfectly good car with a lot of life left in it. Save the rest of the money and buy a new car when this one gets old.
I don't owe any on it.
For those who suggest fixing it up, it will need to pass a Virginia DMV rebuild inspection once I'm done, right? Has anyone does one in VA? My understanding is that states vary tremendously in how stringent these inspections are.

my friend had his done on his prelude he bought from a auction with salvage title. The guy came when he wasn't even home, looked at the car and wrote that his car was rebuilt fine and left it on his windshield.
how in the hell are Rims/Tires/Seats = 11200 (80%of14000) ? some please tell me what im missing
Generally I would say, forget it move on, but if your getting the car for that cheap I would probably buy it back. You know how much stuff u could get for that? Recaros, jdm front end, boost. Then again, you may just be buying more stuff for the thieves to steal. It's up to you, if you liked the integra you can put some more work into it and make it so much hotter. For 14k you have a million options as far as cars goes also, so don't be close minded.
