Default Brake Pads? Streetable and Trackable?

I need streetable pads that I can use on the track. Car is driven on the street only on the weekends, so more track orientated pads are probably fine.

I want something decently priced and that will not wear out quickly.

Also, where can I get them and what is the cheapest?

I'm running the Hawk HPS pads up front and OEM in the rear. If we ever hook up at a Phoenix NASA event, I'll let you see how they feel. However, I street this car every day. If I were you, I would be looking more at the HP+ or porterfield R4S pads

Carbotech Panther+. Race pads that *are* street-able with no ill effect. BTW Brian @ fastbrakes carries carbotech's now... i'm sure he will have good pricing.

I honestly can't recommend the Panther+ pads. My friends CRX had some horrible fade problems with the Panthers.. and that's a damned LIGHT car. Granted this was on the track and not the street but I'd stick with the other three listed well before running a Panther+. Personally, I use OEM f/r on the street and hawk blue front on the track with OEM rear pads.. stronger pads on the back (hps+) were nice but I'm too lazy to change them out. hehe

detailed review of my experience. Rhys Millen said they were good when he lapped my car.

but I will be trying R4 and/or Hawk Blues next just to get a personal experience.

-Hawks HP+ or Porterfield R4S (rotor friendly)
-Hawks Blue or Porterfield R4
(not so rotor friendly, streetable??? Don't think so... But everything has a price)

They are pretty much the same... I've been driving both (Porterfield now) and I'm very please with the change over stock! They scream like b1tch, but oh well... I'll give an advantage to hawks 'cause they are cheaper! Some good break fluid and you are set! Second major mod you should do: get some track tires... RA-1, A032R or V700 (best you can get without having to play with negative camber)! That was my setup for the track...

Lapping day are a lot more fun since them...

On my favorite track=> stock: 1:07 racing mods: 1:04

My .02$

Endless CC-X are a good street pad that can do light track duty. They will fade and glaze if your hard on the brakes.

I'm going to try Hawk HP+ this weekend and compare with the Endless.

I just bought a set of Hawk HP+ from Carlex. He has a great deal for front and rear pads, Goodridge Stainless brake lines, and super blue brake fluid for $225 shipped. I don't know if he still has this deal available, but you should contact him and see if he does. It's a great deal. Hopefully, the pads will be going on pretty soon.

Go for the blues. I run blues at the track. I change my rotors and pads when I get there. It's a little bit of a pain, but running blues is so worth it. With the HP+ and Porterfield R4S I still had fade after a fair number of hot laps. With the blues I've never had any.

I'm sure they wouldn't be too bad for running on the street. I ran my blues on the street for a while, and while they do chew up the rotor a fair bit I'm sure it wouldn't be so bad if it's mostly highway driving to get to the track.

I agree with you. I am running Endless CC-X, I have running them on for more then 1 1/2yr and have been participating 7 track days and I still have atleast 60% left.

For Street & track, I definitely recommend them. I will be testing the CC-R soon , Endless said it's temperature start 0-800 and I think it should be pretty good.

I personally think there is no "the best street and track pads" You will always compromise one way or the other.
You can find the best track pads and a more streetable pads mean it will last longer, less brake dust, but of course,
sacrificing the performance.

I think changing the brake pad before going to track is not a big deal and you can save money in the long run.
And you make a good decision of choossing the right street pad and for the track. Just use the highest performance
avalable.

I recommend Hawk Blue for track. I tried HP+, stock and they both faded after a few laps.

This topic is rehashed sooooo many times, have you thought of checking the archives. I was just reading a similar thread yesterday in the Competition forum and I know it's been discussed many, many other times as well.

Sorry for the rant, but the lack of good content on this board is very thin lately and the repeat questions are getting old.

Good good... To be honest, I don't know if I can make it myself! Been rather busy this month. BTW, 1:04 is with the chicane or without? I used to do 1:00 flat in my old Neon without the chicane. Just wondering...

You guys should really read the competition thread more often... Here is an excellent thread about brakes, I have used Carbotech Panther Plus and they are truely great pads.. If you get to the point where the carbotechs don't cut it anymore, its time for blues.. The Panther Plus pads are streetable as well...

If you don't mind the squealing, I would recommend Porterfield R4 up front with factory pads in the rear. A very good track setup and works fine on street too.. rotor friendly enough for street.. just squeals a bit.
Hawk Blue is the best track pad I've found, but not stretable at all.. eats rotors.. pads last forever.
