Default New To H-T. Wondering What Would Be a good Engine for a 89 to 90 Crx

I have a 92 Mr2 N/T that i bought from my friend 3 months ago that was crashed up. I don't think fixing it is in the works for that car. So i was thinking about buying a crx and doing a lot of mods to it. I am a 16 year old, that loves import. I just want to get a feel for what i am looking at getting by asking you guys on here(everyone here seems to be a Honda Professional). I was just wondering what would be the best engine and mods for a crx to start out with. If anyone is interested in the mr2 I will put some pics up of it. Thanks if i can get some imput.

There first thing that you need to determine is your budget. Depending on how much you are willing to spend, you can go from mild to wild. You should also lay down a plan of attack for your car. This way you can avoid unnecessary steps towards your goal.

how much money are you willing to spend. DOHC ZCs are a good motor to start out with, Im 16 and i love mine it is not crazy fast but i think its a great motor to get used to driving hard or racing on.

yea that is a good point to make about budget and making a plan so I don't waste money on unnesseary parts. I was thinking about going wild with it. I live near Chris Rado. He's got a store that can help me out with a lot but since the race season just started he is gone a lot. Starting out budget after purchase of car. I was thinking about 3-5 G's, just to start.

Which CRX are you planning to buy?

If you get an Si, you can do some small mods for relatively low budget to the D16A6 engine, or you could do some kind of "mini-me" (A6 block with Z6 head, ZC pistons, etc.).

The DOHC ZC engine (or D16A9) also is a good, not too expensive choice for a engine swap.

But, if your budget allows, a B16A1 is a very good choice. Easy to swap in, good power and it isn't too expensive like other swaps.

What are you plans? Allmotor? Turbo? Nitrous? Do you plan on using it mostly for 1/4 mile racing, auto-x, track? The possibilities are almost endless...let us know your plans for it, and then it will be easier to us to help you.

Roughly 3g's for a clean b16a swap w/ minor modifications or 4g's for gsr. Building a car will nickle and dime you to death, be prepared ! If you can afford it a Gsr motor that would be badass, tranny too!

If you want to boost, and money's going to be tight, look into a LS (B18A) motor. Cheaper than a B16, more torque, and lot's of aftermarket support. In a CRX, a boosted LS motor will definitely move you.

do you want to stay OBD0 or OBD1?-Not quiet sure what that is.
what is your whp and TQ goal?-HP-thinking around 250-450
what kind of power band do you want? more street power stoplight to stop light king or a topend freeway killer or somthing in the middle....?-Stop light to Stoplight

FI=forced induction (turbo or supercharging)
To make things easier for you, stay OBD0. All cars made before 91 are OBD0. Cars made between 92-95 are OBD1

If you do go with a B18A, try to get a good condition 90-91 motor which will make wiring a little easier.

Get a D15B VTEC. Why you ax? Because it is cheap, it is faster than the stock D16A6, and you dont have a lot of work like you would have if you swap a B series engine.

Wiring wise, the B18A will be much simpler, especially if he has a Si.
