Is a ported head worth using?
YES.
From what I've seen lately, a properly ported head makes worthile difference on a set-up with high lift, fast ramp cams and bumped up compression.
I used to be under the impression that it may not be worth it but properly ported heads rock!

I wouldn't say always worth it. B series heads are designed pretty well from the factory, so sloppy headwork could in-fact decrease the flow through the head.
A properly worked head will give you power above and beyond what the factory head can produce.

I know what the cams in this motor did with a different head that was not as good.
Yes, the BVTEC heads are good. They are not race heads by any means though. They are toned down to last 250k. They however can be made better with proper grinding in critical areas. And certain valve jobs waken these things up.
