The best/cheap things to do would be to get a Si transmission and convert it to MPFI.

Searching would be a good idea...I'll just let you know before you get flamed...This topic has been covered numerious times...figure out what you want to go for, and start from that angle...are you gonna Road Race? Drag Race? Show car? start to decide and then start searching....no need to post this.

si tranny and mpfi like stated above, then if you are good with internals, get a set of p29 teg pistons to bump your compression, then do alot of headwork..along with the usual i/h/e and you will have a very fun car, or ..you could boost it.

Street racing will end up killing/seriously injuring someone.

listen to this man

This is probably the cheapest thing you can get and will make the biggest difference.

The IM can be had for maybe 50$, you'll need the ecu and resistor box. I think the old wiring haness can be reused if you rewire some stuff. I've heard that this swap alone makes up allmost all the power diff between the si and dx. Plus you should get better gas mialage....its just a better system and more reliable. The si tranny will cut something like .5 seconds on the 1/4 with a good driver. But its not necessairily easy to install one (depends on how handy you are)

everybody's been to this stage. hopefully you don't get flamed by those arrogant f*cks that has nothing informative to say and they post to pretend they know better. anyway, like they said, searching the forum would be really good but most beginners go with intake/headers/exhaust. converting to mpfi like they said. with the transmission, i don't believe it makes much of a difference as the dx and si transmission are very close in numbers besides the final drive. if you really want to go faster, rack up a few hundred bucks and get a homemade turbo. (homemadeturbo.com)
here's your choice.
intake/headers: cost you about $500-$600
homemade turbo: about the same.

exhaust, well you're going to need a catback exhaust setup for about $500.
or look for shops that do mandrel bending and get it done for about well i'd say $100 more or less.
welcome to the world of low buck racing.

I'm glad to see there are a few other people out there who have bills to pay.

I've been working on my '91 Si HB for going on 3 years, I've only made mods when the cash is there. Start small and don't feel like you have to have the fastest car on the road to enjoy it. Intake, headers and exhaust are good places to start.

Good luck, and don't street race, you'll kill yourself!!!

I started small too...bought a 89 CRX Si for 200 bux, had been backed into by a semi...oddly enough, damage wasn't too bad, and I began fixing it...took about 4 months to get it on the road...and after that whenever I had the money I would buy stuff...recently I graduated from college and have had more money to play with, so in the last 4 or 5 months, it's gotten suspension, header, and 'bing-bing' a B16 Swap...but it was worth the wait...
