Default Questions about the LS transmission and compatibility with other engines

I have an 98 LS transmission (engine: B18b1) and i'm wondering if i can put in a b18c5 or something else? Also i'm wonder what the difference between the 95-97 LS engines and 98s are... when i'm online looking at buying a new engine the 98 are a little more expensive. My block on my 98 LS engine is cracked and i'm wondering if i can use the pistons and everything else from the 98 and put it in a 97 block and still have it match up with the 98 transmission without any problems or am i going to need the pistons and everything from the 97 block.

thanks for your insight (new to hondas but lovin it)

All b-series transmissions will bolt up to any b-series motor. 92-95 engines are OBD1 while 96+ are OBDII, 98's might be more expensive simply because they are newer. There's no performance difference between any year B18B. Yes all your pistons, rods, crank etc will drop into a 97 B18B (actually any B18A/B from 90-01).
