Best Braking System for GSR?
I have a '97 GSR with HX rims. I need to stop as soon as possible. I currently have a stock GSR set up. What should I do to decrease my stopping distance w/o changing the rim size - changing the caliper, rotor size, pads, etc. is fine as long as it fits in the HX rims. If nothing works with the HX rims, I can put back my 15" GSR rims.
I am planning on getting turbo in the next month or so. I just need better brakes to compensate the power.
theme - economically feasible

Axxis pads, or I heard Hawk or AEM pads, If you have big money, you could get some nissin calipers, What size are the HX rims, that doesn't leave much room for a rotor swap, you might could get some Brembo blanks.
im sportin axxis ultimates front, and metalmasters rear, and brembo blanks. i havent really tested them hard yet cuz their not broke in but they seem lots better initially.
also someone will say search and ask what you plan on doing: track, autox, daily whatever. it matters in the pad and rotor choices you make.
also brakes are only as good as your tires. upgrade those too.

can't run fastbrakes with 14"
call up andie at http://www.cobaltfriction.com
he'll hook you up
what do u need the car/brakes to do
daily driven?
autoX?
HPDE?
there many different brake pads for each application.
for street driven, i really like Cobalt GT-Sports
also get some decent brake fluid
and many people forget this, Tires, it doesn't matter how good the brakes are if the tires don't grip the road well
some 14" Falken Azenis will serve you well

My first answer would have to be to hit the brakes....generally that works pretty well...if you want to stop even faster, I suppose you could run off the road and hit a tree, those tend to do pretty well at stopping vechiles quickly. Seriously though, the gsr brakes are going to be the biggest thing that fits under those crappy wheels you insist on running, so pads and "maybe" rotors will help. The only words of wisdom I have for you is that when you get high performance pads, they dont really help you stop faster they just have a different heat range, so when your factor brakes would start to fade from heat, the aftermarkets wont. Also note that when its cold outside(dead of winter) that you will have to get your brakes warmed up, before a few good stops they simply dont want to stop.

Just get some good pads, make sure your fluid is up to par and you'll be good to go. I laugh at poeple at the track who can't run descent rubber because they insisted on buying some huge brake kit that is nothing but bling. There so worried about stopping, but they can't launch if there life depended on it.
Keep it simple and cheap. I went with the Axxis ultimates form cobaltfriction, they were cheap and they get the job done. They were a great improvement over the stock pads, The initial bite is so much better than oem pads.
They also have a street friendly heat range, so they work well when they are cold.
My only complaint is they are a little dusty, but you have to give a little to get a little and I don't mind cleaning my front wheels more often for better braking.
I am also boosted by the way and they are holding up just fine

i dont have abs by the way... the car is goin to be daily driven but i want to road race wit it once in a while.
the HX rims dont fit, but u can shave the caliper or get some wheel spacers. i have wheel spacers on it... juss the front u dont need rears. pics soon

Yeah, autozone blanks.
Asxis Ultimate front pads.
Falkens.

i have a 2000 gsr with axis ultimate pads, power slot rotors and earls stainless lines and they bite hard. Very nice pedal feel and little to no fade on the track. Def worth the money and they fit under 14'' rims.
oh and as for brake fluid stop down to Ford and pick up the Motorcraft high performance fluid. when tested along side other high performance fluids it does very well. (and its dirt cheap so u can bleed ur system often)
