any idea whats wrong with my car. HELP
im driving along in 5th gear on the highway and all the sudden goes from 4k to 0 rpms, car had no previous problems in the last year or so, never had a check engine light and it still shows no light. Once im pulled over and stopped the oil light and battery light come on....but it has oil, and battery is fine (lights work fine and dosent do anything on jumper cables). now it will turn but not all the way over...so its not getting spark or fuel i have no idea seeing it 1am and it was in the parking lot of a fish market, where it still sits.
yeah but wouldent the alternator have quit, then the battery ran untill dead then the car go dead, because i had and still have lights and radio long after the car quit?

did you hear any noises, whats the milage on your car? it could possible be the timing belt. thats what happened to my car when mine snapped, just a guess
edit just re read and saw that you were getting no spark or fuel
could be fuel line, or the ignitor

miliage is 125k but there was no noise, and would it still turn over (or rather want to turn over) if the timing belt snapped. im thinking/HOPING clogged fuel line or injector or something along the line of fuel.

yeah, thats another one, but i just changed it about 10k ago, but i dident change the wires.
and i never heard any crazy noise, so i dont think it was the timing belt.

- How old is the timing belt?
- Its not your alt or your batt, the battery light would have come on _BEFORE_ the stall if taht was the case. You're just getting those lights since the engine hasnt started yet....they come on when you start the car normally.
- If it was your battery, you wouldnt hear the starter.
- It would still spin with a snapped timing belt (I.E. the starter would turn)
If the engine just stopped you have a couple of possible reasons
- No spark : Pull a plug wire and place it really neer a ground (the end I mean) Have someone crank the car and see if there's a spark. If not...good we've found the problem
The problem can be the ignitor, rotor, coil
- No gas: Clogged lines...doubtful tho as the car was driving fine and just shutoff...wouldnt usually do that with clogged lines. The gas pressure would drop and the enegine would sputter and die.
- Bad timing: I hope not....you'll know when you remove the timing belt cover and see if it snapped. Crank the car and look to see if the timing gears move in synch.

thanks for the info, yeah im hoping its not the timing belt, if it is ill be going to get a new car....F this thing.
the thing is wouldnt i have heard a terrible noise when the timing belt quit, becasuse it just sort of shut off and went dead no noise nothing.

I'm hoping its your ignitor. I've known civics that have done that...it was an ignitor. I dont think its fuel related tho since it just suddenly died. It could also be the main relay...do you hear the pump prime when you turn the key?

yeah i have had 2 friends with ignotors gone bad, right now the car is at the place where it broke down, i have to wait to get my dads gmc to tow it back and look at it. really wasent listening to the fuel pump when i was pissed off last night LOL

uhh, this may sound pretty silly, but once, my car just stopped working too. like, ALL of a sudden. i checked everything in my car. he fuses, the alternator, ignition, starter, everything. except the battery. i checked the battery after a long 2 hours have gone by and i found that one of the wires got dislodged from the battery. check if all 3 wires are going to th ebattery, that JUSt might b your problem.
well it was easy to see once we took the valve cover off, the timing belt is broken.
anybody know if the LS head is clearance free from the pistons?LOL

Ah crap.
99% sure RIP your valves
lemme guess, the T belt was never changed?
Start looking for a new head. Happened to a buddy of mine, he got a complete b20 head for 20$, same head.

same thing happened to me dude.... 99% of the time ur gonna smash valves... bein interference and all..... i was one of the lucky 1% that made it away w/ full compression.....
tell you what you do to tell if its still good.... get a compression tester from autozone for like $25.... w/ the valve cover off.... take out the spark plug of the cylinder bein tested... turn the cams on that cylinder so the valves on that cylinder are closed, unplug injectors, plug compression tester into spark plug hole.... crank the engine a few bumps for about 5-10 seconds each.... see if you make around 135-190psi on the meter and look for a max variation of about 28psi between cylinders.... if it makes less compression than that.... bent valves... more than likely you bent the crap outta the valves

subaru is the only import, that i know of, that has non-interferrence engines. sometimes you get lucky and the cams stop perfectly.
heres a tip to reduce valve breakage, when the engine stops for no reason, as soon as you pull over. immidiatly check your t-belt any way possibly. you cna see it from under the car if you cna do that. do this before trying to start the motor. cuz if the belts broken theres no sense is trying to start it cuz you know it won't
