Adjustment on a clutch from 90 CRX help please?
Alright, I just picked up a 90 CRX si, and the clutch well.. hmm.. how to describe it..
there is a definite point where the pedal is very stiff... and at that point seems to be when the clutch engages.. and then both sides of that 'point' is pretty soft.
I have looked @ the clutch adjustments, but the manual seems to describe them as adjusting where in the pedal motion it engages/disengages.. from a stop it just doesn't get into 1st smoothly.. just sorta 'pops' into first no matter HOW slow I try to let out the clutch..
Any help is MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciated.. thank you!

There should be about 3/4 of an inch free play from where the clutch pedal is at its fully engaged position (all the way up) and the point where you feel the resistance of the clutch begining the disengagement. Its a feel thing but if you have too little the clutch can slip, too much and the transmission may grind due to lack of full disengagement. It is adjusted where the caable goes into the transmission. Turn the black plastic clockwise (when viewed from above) to remove free play or counter clockwise to add free play.
It sounds like the clutch linkage needs lubrication or repair. Quite often symptoms like this are a result of lack of lubrication of the clutch arm pivot ball or the release bearing sleeve. If it was a cable problem, usually the stiffness would be all of the time, not just in one area of the pedal travel but it is still cheap insurance. Another problem is the pedal assembly is falling apart. I hope that helps.
Good call ACTman. I have had similar problems that were soveded by removal of the piviot shaft, cleaning then reinstalling and it has worked fine since. The trouble is you have to pul the Transmission to get to it. Its not too bad but if you have never done it before try to get someone who has they will know the Tricks!
I adjusted it, still feels like it doesn't always fully disengage.. but just sometimes :-\
but there is only about 1/2" of play at the top of the pedal stroke.
so after that 1/2" it gets hard for about 20% of the travel.. then VERY easy... but it isn't fully out of gear (if that makes sense) but just sometimes.. usually noticable more going into 1st gear.. but feeling like other gears too...

You didn't mention disengagement problems before. Now you run the possibility of having a clutch disc problem. When the springs (or rubber) dampers come out of the center of the disc, they can lodge themselves under the pressure plate (periodically) and this causes stiff pedal and of course lack of disengagement. The problem still can be just lack of lubrication or linkage issues, which you should check first, because the extra friction can cause lack of disengagment as well. It is usually less consistent when it is a disc problem though.
