Default Question about Air/Fuel ratio.

What is the ideal Air/Fuel ratio to aim at while tuning on a normal aspirated motor?
BTW, the motor is a B18C5 w/bolt-ons.

TIA!

Eric

There is no ideal number, moreso a range of numbers. Your engine will respond accordingly. 14.7-12:1 on most cars. Have fun.

14.7 [parts air]to:1 part fuel is the perfect ratio to make power. you can use the vafc to try to get as close as possible.theres alot a take in to consideration though.

So, this info revolves around the, as far as I understand, ideal value of 13:1 ratio.

Thanks for the input!

Eric

There is NO one ideal number, rather a range. Example: My motor liked it pretty lean pre high cam, around 14.5, but it needed to be richened up once in high cam, around 12.5-13.5:1.

WAFLES: Thanks for your valuable input.

4door-r: You're a moron! BTW, you have IM.

I consider my question in the All Motor forum was valid, because there is alot of misconceptions about this topic. At least for me. Don't need ****** to bash me around here. Too old for that crap...

The best way to tune your fuel would be on the dyno with a wide band. Some motors like it rich and some do better lean.

If you are just tweaking the motor just to get around, I usually target 14:1 to 13:1 for crusing and light throttle, and 12:1-11:1 during for hard acceleration and 14:1-15:1 for de-acceleration. It all really depends on your motor.

NA cars are usually tuned to what the best output on them are. The A/F can vary from 12.5-14.7 from one car to the next. The best way to find out what the best A/F is for your car is to dyno tune it. But always tune to a reasonable A/F because loads can change from the dyno to the street.
