Basic Exterior Paint Job
Trying to get a ballpark estimate and how much it usually costs to get just a new exterior paint. I'm going with the same exact color that the car came with ( 92 cx phantom grey) so i dont feel the need to do the door jams, engine bay etc. Anyone had any experience with this? Body has just basic dings, no major damage or rust, etc. Also, i'm not looking to get like a 200 dollar paintjob, nor do i need a show car paintjob. Just something that looks good, and will last. Thanks, Clay
i got a quote last summer, with a bunch of **** being putted and shaved off, and fiber glass cut to fit andfixed with a paint job (black) it was $2000

sorry to jack your thread, but does anyone know where i could buy/look at some prices for exterior paint? i just want to get a feel for how much it is going to cost me to paint my car this summer (im doing all the work myself with the help of a few freinds)

it depends on who you know..no body shop will ever admit this but the materials they use to paint your car only cost them about 3-500 bucks plus there labor your looking at another 500 bucks for a 8 hour day of work..of course they wont admit it only toom them 8 hours to prep your car and paint it..they hold it for a few days to make it seem like they are doing a nice job adn then they will wetsandand buff it(if your lucky) in the last few hours before you arrive to pick the car up to make the car look show quality...thats when they hit you with a 2-3000 bill if not more for the "great paint job" you have..when it only cost them about 1.5 days and about 3-500 bucks in material...and youll gladly pay because your so damn excited about your car looking so good(for now) that the price dosent even matter..thats how all shops work unless you are a painter your self or one of your real real close buddys is a painter...i know..ive worked in these type of places for years..now i know what it takes and how much things really cost so im able to do my own bodyshop repairs and not have to worry about getting my anus stitched back together after they pull the bodyshop owners fist out of there
HAHA i know exactely what you are saying. The shop that i work at most of the jobs could get done in a few days, but it seems that some of the cars will sit in there for weeks either b/c the tech dont want to work on it for the day, parts havent came in, supplements, or who knows what the case is. For overall I think where im at would cost around 2k and the painter can easily do an overall in a day.

think about that for a second..if you were a painter..and you were fast enough to have a car painted in a 8 -10 hour day, and then you charged the customer 2-3000 bucks...thats 2-3000 bucks for one day of work...strippers dont even make that much usually...that my friend is why im a painter
..i can paint a set of 4 wheels from start to finish in under 2 hours and i usually charge 200 bucks a set..thats 100 dollars an hour...easy money and ive never ever had a complaint about my work

yea i know painters can make a lot. The painter at my shop has a brand new silverado 5 kids and his wife is a house wife (o and there house is nice) looks like this body work and frame is going to have to transform into painting skills. Painting is easier then body and frame and it pays more haha i think im doing the wrong thing
