VTEC power lull...
I just got some '01 ITR cams, ITR valve springs, and AEM cam gears installed in my B16A2. It has Comptech I/H/E and an Exedy flywheel/clutch combo. No ecu mods yet, but they're coming.
In the meantime, I've been playing around with my cam gear settings and have been puzzled by my car's performance. Granted none of this tinkering has been done on a dyno, but whether my cam gears are set to +4 intake, -2 exhaust, +2 intake, 0 exhaust, or even 0 intake, 0 exhaust, there is a very noticeable lull in power between 5500 RPM (right when VTEC engages) and 6500 RPM. Off VTEC the cars pulls great compared ot the stock cams, and the same can be said for the gains after 6500 RPM. The ECU is throwing a misfiring code every once in awhile (not all the time) as well.
I had my friend who also has an Si with the same mods and cams drive my car, and he too notices the power loss between 5500 and 6500.
Any ideas?
