Default cam gear degrees???

i have searched this and found no answer. my skunk 2 cam gears say 1 mark = 2 degree crank, does this mean that 1 mark = 2 degrees in reference to cam timing, also by advancing the cam timing is that also advancing ignition timing. sorry if ur tired of this topic but any answers are appreciated!

The cam rotate at half the speed as the crank. Meaning for every one degree you are turning on the cam gear it will be two degrees at the crank. Ignore that saying it is useful info if you don't know that info, but it confuses the hell out of people. When people say two degrees advanced they are refering to the actual marks on the cam gear. Two degrees at the cam. No one refers to the crank when tuning cam gears. Also if the cam gear you are adjusting is driving the dist. than yes it will affect your ignition timing.

I had thought of a similiar question about adjusting cam gears. Just to make sure I understand and anyone else who may read this understands is, one mark advance/retard on the cam gear is in actuality is two degrees at the crank. This info may not serve as useful info unless you adjust the intake cam gear since the distributor timing will alter. Now my question is if all timing marks are lined up, timing light shows that the distributor is set to 15 degrees. If you retard your intake cam one mark on the cam gear (which is two degrees at the crank) is your timing now slightly retarded back to 13 degrees at the distributor? Meaning also that the distributor may need to be advanced again, or no since the purpose of the cam gear adjustment was on a dyno and the actual tuning was done and hp gained. Sorry if I'm really lost or confused anyone. Maybe I should post this in a tuning forum...cheers

Once you change the intake cam, you need to do your timing. You do not have to have the cam gears at stock (0, 0) in order to do the timing.
