Default How do I remove scratches from my headlights???

I bought a pair of used headlights that have some scratches or really heavy residue. Im just wondering what I should use to removem them. I heard that rubing compound might help, but I also heard that a nice wet sand and buff will also help. But if anybody knows how, please let me know. Oh by the way the headlights are 96-98 EK lights. THANKS!!!

I think a company called Novus also makes a scratch remover and polish specifically for plastic. I bought some of it from the Container Store.
